Asian Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2009
I had been wanting orange chicken and looked at many recipes before settling on this one. I knew that I wouldn't have time this evening to fix it as directed, so I threw everything into my crock pot, except the corn starch, before I went to work today. When I came home, I thickend the sauce and my family loved it!

Soft Breadsticks

Reviewed: Nov. 2, 2008
I have to shake my head over the people that either decreased the milk or increased the flour and then complained of tough breadsticks! This is a quick bread recipe and, as such, to get a soft product, the dough will need to be sticky. For a fast breadstick, easily altered to taste, this is a recipe that I will use many times.

Authentic Mexican Tortillas

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2007
I followed the advice of other posters and used 1/2 cup of shortening and cut the salt back to 1 1/4 teaspoons. I put my water in the microwave and heated it to just less than boiling. They were wonderful! I made a double batch and it took me a bit longer to cook them than I had planned. Once my kids, all 7 of them, started eating, there were no complaints and it was worth the wait!

Pistachio Fudge

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2006
This was so yummy!!! My husband dislikes chocolate and loves pistachios, so I thought I would give it a try. He loved it and so did my anti-nut kids. I will definitely make this again. I am also thinking that it would be fun to try with crushed candy canes or red hots instead of pistachios. I think the basic fudge recipe would be versatile.

Pizza Casserole

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2006
This was a quick and easy dinner to make. I added sliced olives to the sauce and saved the green peppers to add after the noodles were in the baking dish as my children don't like them. I left one side "plain" and put the peppers, onion, and mushrooms on the other side. My kids raved about it. They all had ideas of what to add next time-italian sausage or ham and pineapple. I will definately add this to my favorite recipe list.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2006
After reading all of the other reviews, I guess I expected too much. I have made scones numerous times and I have never been as disappointed as I was with these. They were bland with a bitter after taste. I will keep using my other recipes.

Brown Sugar Biscuits

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2006
I liked the idea behind this recipe, read some of the other reviews and decided to give it a try. I added a hefty sprinkle of cinnamon to the dry ingredients and used real butter, but otherwise I followed the directions. I know that over-kneading dough like this will cause it to be tough, so when the dough did not come together well I scrapped the idea of rolling it out like you would for cinnamon rolls. I shaped it into a circle and cut into into wedges for scones. I rubbed some softened butter on top and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar before baking. After baking I drizzled some icing on top and served them to my kids. They were a hit. One of my sons has repeatedly asked for them. They are a fast, easy snack or addition to breakfast.

French Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2006
Great Bread! After reading several of the reviews, I decided to follow the shaping directions exactly by rolling it out for the first loaf and with the other loaf, I just shaped it. I couldn't tell a difference. Both loaves tasted wonderful and looked about the same.
