Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2012
Very good potato soup. (4+ stars) It was waaay too peppery the first time that I made it but I cut the amount of pepper by half the 2nd time and that was much better. I would also omit the 1/2 tsp. salt if using the bouillon.(I'm not a big fan of bouillon granules or cubes anyway. I prefer using broth or stock). The texture of the soup was perfect, (certainly not runny at all but not too thick either) and very creamy. I've also made this soup without the ham. When I did, I added a little cayenne pepper...not too much though...just enough to give it a little bite. This soup is wonderful topped with grated cheddar cheese, crumbled bacon, then served with a crusty bread and a side salad.

Pasta with Fresh Tomato Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2011
I made this exactly as written. It was good but a little bland. I suspect the problem may be with the bottled Italian dressing I used. I plan to make this again using a good homemade dressing.

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jul. 27, 2011
This lasagna was really very good but (in my opinion)the seasonings needed some adjusting... especially the salt. One tbsp.was waaay too much.I would use half the amount or omit it completely and also add just a little more garlic. I would also cut the sugar to 1 tbsp. I used fresh basil instead of dried and I LOVED the addition of the fennel seed. This was a very flavorful sauce and not bland at all if allowed to simmer for the length of time that the recipe states. I soaked regular lazagna noodles in hot tap water for 25 minutes (as suggested by another reviewer) instead of boiling them. Thank you so much for that EXCELLENT tip! I had sauce left over so I froze it to use later over spaghetti. This lasagna sliced up beautifully and smelled wonderful while baking. We enjoyed it very much!Thank you so much for sharing!

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Sooo disappointing!I found these "cookies" to be cakey, bland tasting, and nothing like a true chocolate chip cookie. Definitely not the real deal.

Cherry Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2008
I followed this recipe except for omitting the nuts and I found it to be just okay.I think that it may be the topping that I didn't care for.It was kind of like eating an oatmeal cookie with pie filling.I prefer a traditional crisp topping. On the plus side...this recipe is really simple and fast to prepare!Thank you for submitting it!

Green Grape Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2008
I needed something fast and simple for our 4th of July barbecue and this recipe fit the bill perfectly. My mother in law gave an almost identical recipe to me recently that she said was delicious so I thought I would try it.This isn't the best looking salad but it is delicious and very refreshing! And yes...4# of grapes are just the right amount. I didn't have a problem with runniness because I made sure to drain my grapes on towels until absolutely dry.I added 1 cup mild shredded cheddar cheese to the cream cheese mixture and I used 1/2 c. brown sugar and 1 cup finely chopped pecans for the topping(My mother in law's recipe).I refrigerated it for about 8 hrs. and served it in a pretty(12x8x2") clear glass dish.I may try substituting vanilla flavored yogurt for the sour cream next time just to see how that would taste.Also...Layering the grapes with with the cream cheese mixture in a deep glass bowl may make a prettier presentation. Thank you so much for submitting this recipe. We enjoyed it very much!

Smooth Sweet Tea

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2008
Very good tea!I make this by the gallon all the time. The baking soda will cut the bitterness but may not be necessary if the tea isn't steeped too long or the tea bags are removed gently (no pressing)when removed after brewing.

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2008
In all my years of baking, I have tried several pumpkin bread recipes but this is by far the best I have ever tried and the only one I use now.I prefer to bake it in the evening, let cool till just warm, wrap it, and let it set overnight to blend the flavors and become even more moist.A wonderful Christmas gift!

Amish Friendship Bread Starter

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2007
I had been searching for this starter recipe for about a year and was so happy to finally find it.I made Amish Cinnamon Bread with it and it was delicious! The only problem I had was when I started my second batch of starter, it rose so much that it spilled over the top of my half gallon container!

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 15, 2007
Wonderful tomato soup!Very fresh tasting and rich. This recipe is almost identical to "La Madeleine's" recipe which ran in a Fort Worth,Texas newspaper several years ago. It stated to use 4 cups chopped tomatoes, 1/4 tsp. cracked black pepper, and listed lemon juice as optional. I used 4 large tomatoes which gave me the 4 cups I needed.I also added 1/4 tsp. fresh ground pepper and just a touch of lemon juice.Perfect!!!Thank you for sharing the recipe!

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
Cookies baked up picture perfect and were chewy in the middle and crispy on the edges. Taste was much better than the other Snickerdoodle recipe I tried on this site.I would have given 5 stars if not for the very slight bitter aftertaste.
