I enjoy cooking. Preparing meals is a relaxing experience for me. I try new recipes on company without stress. We get together with our friends and cook 'theme nights'. We then vote on the favorite. The polliticking that goes on is hilarious. One of the best was the 'soup night'. Very interesting.
My favorite things to cook
I'll cook anything but I enjoy spaghetti. There are so many different ways to prepare sauces it is fun. I make a curried chicken that everyone enjoys. I can fool those people who say they don't like curry!! I also make a chicken paprikosh that is always a hit. A German lady gave me the recipe when I was a teenager and it is still great.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I started to cook because my aunt, who I lived with, thought meat wasn't done until it looked like the cast iron frying pan she cooked it in. I figured it could to be better. I was right and started to share the cooking while in high school. Still don't like rare meat though!
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumph is having learned to cook. It is a zen thing. Most things I make are 'good'. Some are 'wow good'. It is enjoyable to have people eat what I have prepared and have them really like it.
My cooking tragedies
I made a chilli before work one morning for a travelling supper/tobogganing party with our co-workers after work. I dropped a ceramic pepper shaker in the slow cooker and the lid came off. I thought I dredged most of it out and went off to work. It cooked all day and when we came back to our house we camped around the fireplace to warm up and I served the chilli. You might have thought you were at a nudist convention the way the sweaters and overshirts were flying off!! I guess more pepper spilled out than I thought. It still comes up in conversation two decades later!!
