Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
These muffins were pretty good, I don't think they'll become a regular in my recipe box, but I'm glad I gave them a try. I used McIntosh apples since that's all I had on hand.

Garlic Bread Fantastique

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
This garlic bread was great, though I felt the flavor of oregano was a bit too strong for my tastes so I would decrease that next time. I also didn't have fresh garlic so I used garlic powder and no sage.

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
I made this recipe as it was listed in my Better Homes & Gardens cookbook, which was exactly the same except it used 3/4 cup oil and 1/2 tsp baking soda. It was the best carrot cake I've ever had, very moist and not too dense. The cream cheese icing is very good too. I don't think it would have been nearly as good without the adjustments I made.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 6, 2007
This was my first time making a basic white bread and it turned out beautifully, I was so proud of myself! Based on other reviews I cut the sugar in half since I didn't want it too sweet. My husband ate almost half the loaf himself at dinner and said to definitely make it again. To get the dough to rise properly, I heated up the oven just a little and then put the dough in there to rise. This recipe really is fool-proof.

Cheddar Bacon Hamburgers

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2007
I thought these burgers had great flavor, even with leaving out the horseradish since I didn't have any. Perfect on a bun spread with just a little mayonnaise & topped with lettuce.

Zucchini Tomato Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2007
I didn't care for this recipe. There weren't enough vegetables to me and the biscuit layer was very bland. I would not make this again.

Italian Meatball Sandwich Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2007
I found this same recipe in a Taste of Home magazine a while back, only that one called for slicing the bread, not cubing it. I think cubing the bread would be better. Everything was great about the recipe except I didn't think there was any need for a cup of water, and I would probably cut back a bit on the mayo/cream cheese mixture next time. This is not a dish for those counting calories!

Lemon Blueberry Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2007
This bread was very good. I used small wild blueberries so I had no problem with them sinking at all. Next time I'll wait longer before drizzling the glaze over top since it ended up melting down the sides of the bread into a puddle. Great flavor , though, I thought the amount of lemon was perfect. I did leave out the lemon zest and the nuts.

Colorful Fried Rice

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2006
This is a great recipe! So good and so easy to make. I used a little bit more soy sauce than called for, and I would saute the carrots before adding everything else since they were still crunchy at the end. Other than that, I wouldn't change a thing.

Buttermilk Pie III

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
I liked this pie alright, though I did think it was really sweet and not as smooth and creamy as I was expecting.

Simmered Smoked Links

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
I really liked this recipe. Instead of using a crockpot, I put everything in a saucepan and let it simmer on the stove. I didn't have any horseradish, but I did have some spicy brown mustard that had grated horseradish in it, so I used that, and it turned out very well. I used Hillshire Farms cheddar lit'l smokies.

Cheesy Vegetable Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
I liked how easy this soup was to make, and thought it was pretty good. I used just one cup of half & half, and used milk for the other cup. I think I also would use Velveeta next time so it'll be a little smoother. You can really substitute whatever vegetables you have on hand, I didn't have cauliflower so I used potatoes instead and it still turned out great.

Red Garlic Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
These were really good mashed potatoes, not the best I've ever had but definitely good enough to make again. I only used about half the butter called for, and I also didn't have any fresh garlic so I left that out. I also didn't use an electric mixer, but they still turned out really creamy.

Scalloped Corn III

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2006
This was a pretty good recipe. I used only about 2/3 the amount of crackers called for, and that worked out just perfect for me.I liked how easy it was to make.

Gramma Brown's Corn Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2006
This was simple and easy to make, and tasted great. I cut the recipe in half and used one can of creamed corn and no whole kernel corn. I also left out the celery and just added a little celery salt.

Special Irish Beef Stew

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2006
This was a great beef stew, I love the deep flavor the beer gives to it (I used Guinness). I'm not a big fan of tomato flavor in my stew so I left out the tomato paste. Also left out the mushrooms since I don't like them, and didn't use nearly as many carrots. Overall, this is probably my favorite beef stew recipe.

Easy Tuna Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 9, 2006
This was a quick and easy recipe that I'll be sure to keep. As another reviewer advised, definitely keep an eye on the onions so they don't burn. I used a round 1.5 quart baking dish and that was the perfect size, a 9x13 pan would have been much too big for the amount this recipe makes.

Cream of Broccoli Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2006
I just made this soup for lunch today, and it was my first time branching out from my family's recipe and trying something different. I would definitely recommend it, it was quick and easy, and quite good. The only change I made was to leave out the onion and cheese.

Sausage Bean Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
This recipe provided a good base & i made changes based on what I had on hand. I used stewed tomatoes instead of tomatoes w/chiles, and kidney beans in place of great northern. I also added some garlic and onion powder, and about two teaspoons of Creole seasoning. I think the stew would have been really bland otherwise. With the changes I made it was really good, and I served it over some brown rice with biscuits on the side.

Russian Mushroom and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2006
I don't like mushrooms but I wanted to branch out and give this a try. Overall, I really liked this soup but I think if I make it again I'll leave out the mushrooms or substitute something else in their place. I also used onions in place of the leeks.
