My favorite things to cook
Desserts, hands-down! A motley mix of types in various flavors. Fruit, chocolate, nuts, vanilla, maple, cinnamon... and less common flavors, too! Simple to gourmet, elegantly formal to T-shirt casual, and everything in between. :-)
*BEWARE* My dessert recipes are rarely (if ever) low-fat, low-sugar, etc. I like desserts that are good for your SOUL and great for your MOOD--if I want something healthy, I don't reach for sweets!
My favorite family cooking traditions
We try a new type of food or recipe at least once a month. We've discovered some unusual favorites that way! My kids love munching on fresh brussels sprouts or mango slices, for instance!
My cooking triumphs
My favorite triumph was when I first made "Thunder Cake," a great chocolate cake recipe from one of my son's schoolbooks (of all places). It includes tomatoes, which of course makes many people reluctant to try it ... but I've made it about ten times, and so far, everyone has loved it!
My cooking tragedies
Trying to plan ahead for a large family gathering, I boiled 2 dozen eggs that I planned to use for deviled eggs the following day. Once cooked, I set them aside to cool. Then I forgot all about them... until I found them, still sitting in the room-temperature water, the next morning.
Short on time and ingredients, I opted to take store-bought cookies instead. Better than nothing, I suppose... but not by much.
