Ham and Cheese Bowties

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2011
Granted, this was just macaroni and cheese with ham, but it was pretty darn tasty! I used a heaping teaspoon of garlic and also probably about 3 cups of cheese total (cleaning out the fridge). Served with green beans for an easy dinner.

Delish! I went with one full cup of yellow cake mix. We'll be keeping this recipe handy!!

Mexican Chicken Corn Chowder

Reviewed: May 20, 2011
A very tasty chowder. I made it a little differently - boiled the chicken in water with cumin and cayenne pepper, then shredded it and added to the other ingredients. I also added a can of potatoes and a few handfuls of crinkle-cut carrots. I used fat free half and half and chicken stock instead of the bouillon. Thanks for the recipe!

Dill Pickle Meatloaf

Reviewed: May 11, 2011
Without even looking at the other reviews, my fiance also exclaimed "It tastes like a McDonald's hamburger!" I made two substitutions (a half cup of bread crumbs instead of bread and onion powder instead of onion) and added some garlic powder. I liked that this was made in an 8x8 pan because it cooked in 45 minutes! I put the glaze on halfway through the cooking time. Thanks for a great meatloaf recipe!

Springtime Strawberry Bars

Reviewed: May 8, 2011
I liked this recipe, but it wasn't over the top. I didn't have any lemons to zest, so I tried adding some lemon juice but don't think I added enough. Next time I think I'd try some almond extract instead to bring out the almond flavor some more. I also used a whole 18 oz jar of preserves. I could see doing this dessert with a lot of different flavors - someone suggested that lemon curd would be nice to try.

Slow Cooker Lemon Garlic Chicken II

Reviewed: May 1, 2011
We gave this five stars, although I took a lot of suggestions along the way! First, didn't bother browning the chicken. Second, omitted the salt and bouillon/water and used a can of chicken broth and a glug or two of white wine. Third, used lemon pepper instead of regular and used a whole teaspoon. Put it all into the crock pot and cooked two hours on high and two and a half on low. It came out pretty well, although next time I might try putting in some of the lemon zest to give it a little bit more lemon flavor. Thanks!

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2011
Really yummy! We used half a stick of butter during baking and it turned out just fine. Much better than shake and bake!

Baked Pineapple

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
I made this for Easter and everyone really liked it! Some suggestions: 1) Beat the eggs before adding; 2) use the juice from the pineapple, and mix the cornstarch with the juice before adding to the other ingredients to avoid cornstarch clumps. I also mixed the cinnamon right in with everything else and skipped the extra butter on top. I used 3/4 a cup of sugar and it worked out nicely. Thanks for an easy and tasty recipe!

Potato Casserole

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
We liked this recipe quite a bit, but did make some tweaks that worked out nicely. I used the 16 ounces of sour cream, but used part of a dip packet to spice it up. Also used cream of chicken and herb soup and swiss cheese. We topped it with a sleeve of crushed Ritz crackers and poured half a stick of melted butter over it. To assemble, I thawed out the potatoes and mixed the sour cream, soup and most of the cheese together before putting it in the pan. Baked it for 40 minutes, and then topped with the rest of the cheese, crackers and butter. This recipe certainly lends itself well to modifications!

Cola Pot Roast I

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
I made this recipe really easy - I put the roast in the crock pot, covered in seasoning and poured on Italian-style stewed tomatoes and part of a can of Coke Zero. No extra seasonings or onions or celery. Cooked it on low all day at work and it was falling apart when I came home. That rates a 5 in my book!

Cinnamon, Spice and Everything Nice Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
These are good cookies, but I feel as though the title was somehow misleading. I was expecting a cinnamon cookie with some other spices, but it really was just a spice cookie with cinnamon chips. Again, a good cookie, just not what I expected. I even subbed cinnamon for some of the other spices and I could barely tell it was in there. For those of you looking for Cinnamon Chips, I had to order them on Amazon.com. None of the other grocery stores (Wal-mart, Kroger or Whole Foods) around me carried them.

Cheesy Buffalo Chicken Lasagna

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
We liked the idea of this lasagna, but it didn't turn out as well as we were expecting. First, it was kind of watery/runny. Second, the chicken should probably be shredded instead of chunked. Third, the hot sauce + marinara just didn't quite = buffalo sauce.

Slow Cooker Turkey Breast

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2011
This turkey turned out really well! I used a bone-in breast (approximately 6 pounds) and just cooked it on low while we were at work. My only complaint was that it was kind of salty, so next time I might make up my own rub instead of using the onion soup mix. Even so, we'll be having turkey much more often than just Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Mom's Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
I appreciated that this dish came together super easily and with only 4 ingredients! We did think, however, that the onion soup over powered the other flavors of the dish. Maybe next time we'd use a combo of onion powder and garlic powder (perhaps with some other seasonings?) instead of the soup mix.

Debdoozie's Blue Ribbon Chili

This chili was good, but I thought it was a little too pepper-y. It came together very easily, though, which was nice.

Cuban Ropa Vieja

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2011
I was hoping to like this recipe more than I did. I think it needs a little something else. Salt and pepper? Hot pepper flakes? I did use a heaping tablespoon of minced garlic, and let the meat marinate in the sauce overnight. It came out nice and tender, it was just missing something. We'll try it again and see if we can kick it up a notch. Also, I agree with the first reviewer - serve it over rice with beans - no cheese or sour cream here!

V-Eight Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2011
I made my soup by putting a can of sliced potatoes, 2 12 oz pkgs of frozen veggies, 1 lb. of ground beef and a packet of onion soup mix in my crock pot. Then I poured as much V8 in as would fit (not quite the whole container). I thought that this was great considering it's about as basic a soup as you can get. Next time I'll brown my beef with some Montreal Steak Seasoning for a little more flavor.

Pineapple Chicken Tenders

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2011
I made the marinade as directed and then poured it over the chicken tenders in a Pyrex dish and baked at 350 for 30 minutes. My fiance and I thought it came out great considering it wasn't grilled. Next time I'll take the advice of others and marinade the chicken longer, probably adding some garlic, ginger and pepper flakes to the mix. Thanks for another easy chicken recipe!

Cheesy Chicken Meatballs

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2011
I made these meatballs as directed (except for using regular cream cheese) and thought the Italian seasoning was a little strong and that the red pepper flakes were a little much. Next time I'd decrease both by at least half. I used an ice cream scoop to portion out my meatballs - I didn't fill it all the way so they came out a little wonky, but it kept my hands clean :)

Red Skinned Potato Salad

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
Everyone liked this potato salad, but man, was it time consuming! And given all the work that went into it, I didn't think it stood out THAT much above other potato salads. I used half mayo and half sour cream, green onion instead of white, and added some garlic paprika dip mix that I had on hand.
