Peanut Butter Banana Muffins

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2006
I thought these were good. I used a bit extra peanut butter and used crunchy. Not too sweet, subtle banana flavour, but not bland as some suggest. Certainly not dry. that's an indication that you've left them in the oven too long! Oven times are only a guideline. I added a dried banana on top instead of the topping. (not fond of sugar toppings) I have no idea why so many gave this recipe 1 star....

Bean Salad with Tarragon Vinaigrette

Reviewed: May 10, 2006
This was alright. I used fresh steamed green beans, left out the onions, fresh tarragon (all the difference) and added some wild rice. I highly reccomend the wild rice in it for texture/different colour

Cardamom Cookies

Soft, delicious. Don't cook these too long or you lose that lovely texture. They're great with raisins or dates and with extra cardamom.

A pizza cutter is great for making the strips. Great recipe! Made the place smell like a bakery.

Poppy Seed Bread III

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2006
I substituted half splenda/half sugar and half applesauce/half oil to make it a bit healthier and it was fantastic! I didn't add the glaze. It didn't need it as it was moist, and sweet! lovely!

Amazing Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2006
This was alright as a side dish. Wasn't a big fan of the mayo in it...I think for something savoury, rather than sweet I'd leave it out, add sour cream as another reviewer suggested as well as some sage or other spices.

Chocolate Scotch Whiskey Cake

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2006
Wow, rich, soft, yummy. Suggestion: DO use parchment or your cake will fall apart coming out of the pan! I also added hazelnuts as well as raisins, still superb. I found it took a bit longer than 20 mins to cook enough, but that may be my oven!

Whipped Frosting I

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2005
Fantastic! I made this vegan w/soy milk and olive spread. Yes, it's a tough frosting to make and looks gross but the key is lots of stirring and add the flour gradually through a sieve. It's also great w/cocoa powder added.

Vegan Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2005
um, this is the best cake I've ever made! I doubled the recipes, added a lil' extra baking soda and vinegar and presto! DON'T overcook this! I don't know why someone said this was dry. cake's are often dry cause' you leave it in the oven too long. For a great vegan icing, make a whipped frosting such as http://cake.allrecipes.com/az/WhippedFrosting.asp but substitute w/soy milk n' olive oil spread. add some cocoa. its great! The paste in the frosting recipes WILL look gross but don't worry it turns out just like Ann says!

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2005
Tasted alright but a bit sweet. Problem: it was more like a soup than a frosting. I will use it to glaze my carrot cake but there is no way it will go on the sides without dripping. A bit dissapointing in the consistency.

Pumpkin Cookies VI

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2005
I didn't follow this carefully and they were awesome - chewy and sweet and good. I used all brown sugar, a healthy butter alternative (1/3 cup) added 1 cup of pumpkin, lots of extra oats, and a tsp of baking powder. Plus I used mixed spice instead of cinnamon. bake fifteen minutes for sure.

No Bake Camping Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2005
These were fantastic tasting. The reason why i only gave it four stars though - they were really really hard to roll. I don't think I did anything wrong. They just weren't very stuff. Maybe chill them first before rolling? I'll try that next and maybe use stiffer butter/margarine

Very moist and yummy. My roomate loved them. I didn't add any sunflower seeds beause I didn't have any but it didn't matter. Not too sweet. I might add a bit more sugar next time because I have a sweet tooth.

The Most Popular Cake in America Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2005
Moist and delicious. I substitued plain yogurt for sour milk. I used 1/2 c brown and 1/2 cup white sugar and used mixed spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, etc) instead of cocoa. I also didn't have lard (?) so I used butter flavoured margarine. Took a while longer to bake but boy was it good. Lastly, I added 1/2 a pack of yeast. Made it a bit fluffier and less dense. yum!

Spicy Baked Sweet Potato Fries

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2005
These were great because I don't like regular potatoes. I made them with cinnamon spice and a sugar/salt mixture. They do get crispier if you cut them up in smaller strips so I reccommend that. I bet you could dip these in some great sauces....
