This is just the BEST chili recipe ever. I have substituted skinless boneless chicken breast for the sirloin, I've omited the beef broth or the tomato paste when I didn't have them on hand, I've substituted tomato sauce or tomato puree for the broth. It comes out great every time. It's very user and pantry friendly :)
The only real changes I made were to scale the recipe down to 4 servings (although it's even better left over) decrease the chili peppers and to add diced green pepper, parsley, garlic and basil. I also put all the beans in at once and simmer for about 2 hours, adding a little water if it gets too thick while simmering. It has alot of unusual ingredients (coffee, cocoa etc) which is what made me want to try it. Surprisingly they all work together well. Serve this with some warm garlic bread and a crisp salad and you have a delicious and easy meal. My DH who doesn't like Chili said this is the best!
