I am what is referred to as a 'global nomad' by people who haven't had my experiences living abroad. I grew up in Zambia before moving to Ethiopia when I was 15 years old, and have had the opportunity to experience numerous colorful cultures around the world, from the spiced Pilau rice in Tanzania, to the dried Kapenta fish in Zambia, to the Injera which serves as the staple food in Ethiopia. My experiences have opened my eyes to the amazing array of foods and cultures in the world, making me very interested in preparing simple, but good, food.
My favorite things to cook
I love preparing appetizers like bruchetta and deviled eggs, but my sweet tooth pushes me in the direction of cookies, pies, cakes, and creamy drinks. So in short, I enjoy making appetizers and desserts!
My cooking triumphs
I have created many of my own recipes, from iced teas to crusts. Recently however I mastered the art of thin, crispy crepes with cheese and parsley filling, which was achieved through also mastering the art of flipping crepes in the air to cook them. This is one of my most fond memories of cooking.
My cooking tragedies
I made my first pie when I was 13, and I forgot to cook the crust before adding the filling. Let's just say it brought new meaning to the words 'soggy and raw'!
