Chocolate Covered Cherry Cookies II

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2013
Added a little cherry juice to the dough. Sprayed the pans because others said the sauce was sticking to the pan and where it dripped, it did. Used trader joes Morello cherries and they were great. Used dark chocolate in the sauce and glad I did. They weren't too sweet but very chocolaty. Other than the tops being sticky, these were great. I got 32 cookies, not 18 and frosted them before baking.

Japanese Nabeyaki Udon Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2012
Unfortunately I had chicken broth and not dashi. I'm sure this would be perfect if I were using the right ingredients. As it was, I thought it was great and will certainly make it again.

Bread and Butter Pickles II

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2011
used less sugar and salt but this was very good and very similar to a recipe I have from an old cookbook on preserving. I'm making them again and that says a lot!

Blonde Brownies I

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2011
Doubled the recipe and should have cooked longer. Taste was great. As others mentioned, not overly sweet. I treated this like a chocolate chip cookie and used different mix-ins. Don't consider that really altering. Used vanilla chips, craisins and fresh blueberries.

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
Couldn't have been easier and tasted great. The balsamic does turn the dish into something special. I made a double batch and cut up the chicken, added zucchini & mushrooms. Versatile dish and great for a crowd.

Southern Hollandaise Sauce

Reviewed: May 23, 2011
This is easy to understand and follow. The flavor is great. As with any natural flavoring, it's going to vary depending on what you have. If the lemons are tart, you may need less, which is why the suggestion to add at the end is there. Ours came out perfect.

Garlic Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2011
Excellent and easy. Used frozen garlic cubes and needed a bit more bread crumbs. Also only had chicken thighs. Made it before with breasts and will try with haddock or other white fish too.

Bazlama - Turkish Flat Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
This tasted great. It was very sticky even when I added more flour. I'd like a better idea of how soft the dough should be. I was worried I was going to add too much flour and make it dry. I didn't add enough flour to have it hold its shape. But I'd make it again. It was very easy and everyone loved it.

Fresh Semolina and Egg Pasta

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
Surprised that it worked up as well as it did, but I'm seriously thinking about buying a pasta machine now. Arms got extremely tired!

Simple Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 8, 2010
This was wonderful - texture and taste. Took the advice to add the gluten, but it took me longer than 25 minutes to bake. I really should have taken the internal temp and not gone by the time on the clock.

Fluffy Whole Wheat Biscuits

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
I used this as a basis for jumping on the bacon & maple bandwagon. I added 4 strips of crumbled bacon, sub'ed maple syrup for the sugar and 1 tbsp bacon fat for the butter. Also cut back the butter just a bit. Used 1 1/2 c. white wheat flour & 1/2 cup white flour, and skim milk. Topped with a bit of maple icing. They were great and fluffy like the name says. Will make again with other flavorings.

Moroccan Lentil Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2010
This was very good. The only change I made was to use 4 cups chicken broth instead of water. Also had to add a little salt.

Easiest Eggplant

Added garlic powder & parm cheese to crumbs. Mixed plain crumbs and panko. It was really good. I don't think I baked for as long, but did raise the temp to 400 near the end.

Easy Sausage Strata

Great recipe, simple, basic. I cut it down by 1/3. The quality of the ingredients can make all the difference though. We had excellent breakfast sausage and that's what really made it.
