Moose Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 23, 2005
The wine was overpowering and can be blamed for making this recipe a failure. Perhaps there is a specific burgundy that would work better with this recipe, but we sure didn't find it.

Whole Wheat Bread II

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2005
I am giving this one star because the recipe is not for a whole wheat bread.

Special Irish Beef Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2005
This was great. I added some horseradish and horseradish mustard for some kick. As well as some worchestershire sauce. Lastly I forgot to get tomato paste, but sliced up a one tomato and added a slash of tomato juice (not V8)

Awful. Unless you like bland tasteless chili from a can.

French Onion Soup Gratinee

Reviewed: Oct. 31, 2006
Absolutely the best onion soup I have ever had! I'd give it 10 stars if I could, because what makes it even more wonderful is that I made it in my own kitchen and did not have to pay $6.00+ for a bowl at a restaurant, hee hee. I ended up simmering it about 15 minutes longer than required (according to taste), but other than that I followed the recipe to a T. In the future I may make some changes, but that is only in the search for a vegan version to serve to some vegan relatives. Thank you so much for this recipe, and also thanks for clarifying the need for salt to carmelize the onions- I am normally a no/low-salt cook unless there is a reason for it. Since I used unsalted butter and low-salt broth (you didn't specify), I figured that early dash of salt which was needed would be just fine. And it was- it was perfect!!! Excellent onion soup, which I added to my collection and will forever make in lieu of my old standyby- Mom's. (sorry Mom!)

Black Bean and Salsa Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2007
This recipe is absolutely fantastic and a snap to put together. I found that I needed a little less liquid than the recipe called for (I just reduced it for some time to make it less watery). I found it tasted best the same consistency as a thick lentil soup rather than, say, a chicken soup consistency. Adding a little bit of finely chopped cilantro near the end makes the recipe really stand out.

Deviled Sausages

Reviewed: May 16, 2008
Wow, this was amazing. I used cajun chicken sausage, some leftover pizza sauce instead of paste, Dijon mustard, and a pinch of corn starch. I served it over microwaved, mashed sweet potatoes. Quick and delicious!

Rosemary Chicken with Orange-Maple Glaze

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2008
Like other reviewers, the "glaze" was not a glaze at all - more like a broth. I followed the directions exactly, using real maple syrup, and even tried adding a tablespoon of cornstarch during the sauce reduction time - to no avail. This was just "ok."

These are the only thing that Jeremy Axlerad has eaten all day. That drop of lemon juice really sealed the deal.

Sweet 'n' Spicy BBQ Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2008
This sauce rocks. Both of our kids have trouble with soy digestion, so it was nice to find a bbq sauce that doesn't contain soy at all. It's pretty obvious, but the cook time doesn't include the time to get the stuff to a boil. Also, learn from me, start with a pot that's at least 3.5 qt. I had to relocate the sauce from a 3qt pan to a 3.5 qt to give it some space.

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
Followed recipe to a T except for the crushed red pepper which I halved for the sake of my fiance's heartburn/acid reflux and it still had a bit of kick to it (more medium than mild). Otherwise this is excellent and will be the way I season ground beef for mexican dishes from now on.

I had the same problem with my Merengues not fluffing up until my mom (!) told me that letting the eggs warm up to room temperature (or close to it) makes all the difference. It works!

Garbanzo Tomato Pasta Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
I made this the first time with store-bought, "Kitchen Basics" brand vegetable broth---a very salty, full-flavored broth----and it was scrumptious, delectable. I made it again with a weaker, home-made broth and it was just okay. If you want to make this yummy, use a full-flavored veggie broth!

Scot Hibb's Killer Culinary Meal Loaf

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2010
I loved it! I halved the recipe because I only had one pound of ground beef. I, too, thought it seemed too moist before I baked it, so I added about a cup of breadcrumbs before baking. Deee-licious! I love recipes that have 'extenders' in them, for health and budget reasons. Thank you for sharing! This will be a regular in our rotation.
