Split Pea Soup Atu

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2004
Yum! Yum! Yum! This soup is awesome! We're soup lovers and enjoy trying new soups so I made this for my family and they loved it! My mother (who insisted that she wasn't a fan of split pea soup) literally looked me in the eye and said that this was THE best soup she had ever eaten (and mind you, we eat a LOT of soup). The only things I did different were to follow everyone's suggestions and half the water ( I also left out the potatoes because I had none); and add carrots and celery. But leave the pepper! It adds a great kick! Awesome awesome soup that I know I will be making again and again in the future!

Cranberry Orange Loaf

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2004
Awesome tasting bread (and that's even after I replaced the butter with applesauce). Reccomendation: use half orange-flavored Craisens (cause finding fresh cranberries isn't always easy) and half fresh blueberries, it's delish!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup Cookies

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2004
If you're like me and you LOVE sugary, gooey, sweet treats than this is THE recipe! I went off my diet for these babies and it was worth it. If you follow this recipe exactly then you'll get moist, rich, peanut butter and chocolate cookies that will put you into a sugar-induced coma. Don't leave out any of the chocolate chips, cocoa, peanut butter chips or peanut butter cups because that's for weaklings! My only suggestion is to make them bigger than a tablespoon, these killer cookies don't expand very much during the baking process. If you want a cookie that will knock the socks off of everyone and make you shakey with sugar, than this is the right recipe. If not, I'm sure there's a safe ol' oatmeal cookie recipe hanging around here somewhere. Cheers!

Chocolate Trifle

Reviewed: Apr. 8, 2005
Delicious! My family loved the trifle and it was gone in a flash! I cooked my brownies for the least amount of time so that they were nice and gooey, this probably helped the pudding flavor soak in.I also added chopped milk chocolate Hershey's to the pudding. Yum! I think, as with every trifle, it tastes best after sitting for a day or so. This trifle is very rich, so only the brave hearted sugar addicts should eat it (like me, ha!) Five Star trifle that is a snap to make!

Pan-Poached Alaskan Salmon Piccata

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2010
A nice change from the usual grilled salmon. I don't know if poaching it made it any more moist but it was still delicious, especially the caper sauce. Very elegant to have the sauce on top and my family loved it, of course we love anything with capers. It was super quick and easy, I'll definitely make this for company!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2010
Extremely easy and delicious. I tried using just 1/4 c of sugar the first time and it wasn't sweet enough so I stick to the 2/3c and it's very yummy and not too sweet at all in my opinion. Be patient with the yeast as some types take longer to proof than others. I put an egg wash on the loaves and they come out looking beautiful. This recipe is a keeper and the loaves make great gifts.

Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies I

Reviewed: Nov. 6, 2011
Very good cookies. I used butter-flavored shortening and I really think that helped to give the cookies some depth of flavor. With that one change these cookies are rich and chewy and they have that nice sturdy oatmeal cookie consistency that I like. I will definitely make these again!

Carrot Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2013
Good carrot soup recipe! Per the advice of the other reviewers I only used half a teaspoon of pepper and it was the perfect amount of spiciness. It was very easy to make and tasty! I added smoked paprika to give the soup more depth and next time I'll add a little sauteed onion to the carrots when I puree them.

Grandmother's Buttermilk Cornbread

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2013
A tasty cornbread recipe. At first I thought it was a little bit too sweet, like almost on the verge of being 'cake' sweet, but with a hearty layer of butter it's very yummy. I baked mine for about 35 minutes so it was crunchy on the outside but still moist on the inside. I would make this again but would probably decrease the sugar just a tad.

Chicken Curry I

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2006
I think this recipe is a good starting point for chicken curry. Unfortunately, when I made it the spices weren't strong enough and the broth tended to get a bit watery. This recipe is good for people who don't like over-powering flavors.

Absolutely Sinful Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2010
Not sweet enough, in my opinion. Cakey and light, the flavor is good but I wouldn't say this is a sinful cookie. Maybe an increase in sugar and adding coffee might make this richer.

Sarge's EZ Pulled Pork BBQ

Reviewed: May 31, 2009
As far as consistency goes, the pork fell apart really well and was very moist. But flavor-wise it was very bland, even after I added garlic, worcestershire sauce and liquid smoke. Of course, once you add BBQ sauce it's great but the broth alone isn't enough. It's always fun to try new recipes though so thanks for sharing!

Easy Mini Quiches

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2011
There's too much baking mix and not enough eggs so the end result was more of a biscuit with a bit of egg than a mini quiche.
