About this Cook
A food blogger with a passion for baking and cooking and enjoying good food that is good for you. Visit my blog at www.reneeskitchenadventures.com. I really enjoy sharing my creations with my readers. I am currently an Allrecipes Allstar and enjoying all the great assignments that come with the voluntary position!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake! Bread, cookies, cakes, etc. I also like to focus on making recipes diet friendly and good tasting!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Christmas cookies! I normally bake over 10 different kinds of cookies each season.
My cooking triumphs
pralines as good as the ones we get down south! Being hired to make over 20 lbs of christmas cookies for a company's gift. Having one of my original recipes published in a Taste of Home Cookbook. Becoming an AR Allstar!
My cooking tragedies
many, many, many. It's the only way to learn to get better!

Sweet-and-Sour Coleslaw
Very good! I used prepacked coleslaw mix and had to sub apple cider vinegar (because I didn't have enough rice vinegar) I used real sugar, but reduced the amount to 3 TBS, which was PLENTY sweet. Added a TBS of rice bran oil as well. Loved the corn and jalapeno in it!

Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak
This was pretty good. I only had red pepper, so that is what I used. Like others mentioned, added the pepper toward the end of cooking. More of like a swiss steak to me, than a pepper steak, but it tasted good and my family all enjoyed it.

Sturdy Whipped Cream Frosting
I had no problems with this frosting. I did, however, start off with cold cream cheese. Not room temperature or softened. Be careful to stop beating the after you add the cold whipping cream as soon as the mixture gets stiff. Overbeating will cause it to break and not hold up. You must use both vanilla and almond extract, because it has sort of an odd flavor with just the vanilla. I piped the frosting onto cupcakes and they came out beautiful. It is a nice light frosting option and less sweet than traditional buttercream.
