About this Cook
it's always hard to describe myself to others...i guess im kinda like a rollercoaster ride
My favorite things to cook
i looooove to cook so just cooking in general is a favorite to me no matter what it is!
My favorite family cooking traditions
texmex...i grew up on it...i still love it although i do alter my moms recipes a bit (like cooking meat so that its not so dry...sorry mom) i still like sitting behind a plate of refried beans, fried potatoes and cheese and a nice juicy piece of fried chops or steak and homemade salsa and tortillas...mmmmmmmm
My cooking triumphs
overcomming the fear of cooking indian food...i married a man from india and i had to learn quickly how to incorporate a lot of spices (most that i've never heard of in my entire life) into so many dishes!!! but i did it!!! still not a pro, but im working towards that a little each day!
My cooking tragedies
some of my indian cooking when i first started...i made a curry sooo spicy that our ears were ringing because of the heat...needless to say the bathroom was occupied for the rest of the night.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations
ok, here's my review...i tried the white and yellow cake 3 times, and i think that last time was my last. the first time i made this cake, it seemed really good. it was the yellow version and it came out moist, but had a bit of an aftertaste to it (im assuming from the baking powder) the second time i made this cake i used the white version and substituted butter for the shortening. bad idea...it sunk in and after cooking it for longer than expected it came out very dense and almost like a pound cake consistency. this last time i made it, it tasted sooo much like cornbread. i guess i just haven't had much luck with the yellow and white version of this recipe.

Deep Dish Brownies
not bad...i also omitted the baking pwdr and only used 2 eggs. i will stress to not eat them right after they get out of the oven...i like warm, fresh brownies right from the oven, so if you're tempted DON'T do it! the longer you wait, the better they firm up and taste!!!
