Flatlander Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
Very good, nice flavor -- I would have added more beans for our taste, and perhaps more green peppers to give it a little more texture and make it a little healthier.

Navy Bean Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2008
This was tasty, but the overwhelming flavor really seemed to be salt, which came all from the ham, because I didn't add any more salt. It was easy, but I'm not sure I'd make it again.

Anniversary Chicken I

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
My husband and kids liked this, but I thought the teryaki taste was a little overpowering. I'm not sure I'll make it again.

Aunt Millie's Broccoli Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
I skipped the salt and pepper and used shredded cheddar cheese, as suggested by others. This was just too much "fatty sauce" and not enough broccoli for me- though my kids liked it. Would be easy enough to remedy by increasing the amount of broccoli, but I'm not sure this is any better, really, than the simply broccoli in cheese sauce at the grocery store from Green Giant!

Braised Balsamic Chicken

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
The balsamic vinegar overwhelmed any tomato taste. Next time, I think I'll increase the tomatoes and decrease the balsamic vinegar (and we really like balsamic vinegar!)

Fantastic Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2008
If this had been named "Black Bean Turkey Soup" I may have liked it more. It was very bland and didn't taste like chili to us at all! Not an awful recipe, and certainly healthy, but I'm not sure it's a keeper.

Crustless Spinach Quiche

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2008
I used Romano and cheddar cheese, which I had sitting around, and it worked out great. I, too, was looking for something low-carb for breakfast that was easy, and this definitely fit the bill. Pretty high fat, but at least it has plenty of spinach in it, and I could add other vegetables. Great, easy, recipe.

Quick Chicken Divan

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I changed this to make it like my mother's recipe that I've had since I was a kid. The changes are very similar to those others have made: substituted a can of cream of chicken soup for the can of mushroom soup, added a 1/2 tsp curry powder, and used 1 cup of mayo (instead of 1/2). I wasn't sure about the amount of chicken described in the recipe, but basically I bought 1.7lbs of boneless chicken breasts and it was perfect. Husband and kids (5 and 9y) all absolutely loved it.

No Bake Chocolate Oat Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I cut the butter to 3/4 cup, added a splash of milk, and cooked for the 5 minutes, as others suggested. We keep them in the fridge and they hold together just fine (minor crumbling). I had these at a take out restaurant in Boston several years ago and have been waiting for the recipe to show up on Allrecipes -- was so pleased it finally did. Kids and husband love them -- not too sweet, in our opinion. We also tried these a second time with milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet and they were even better!

Jacky's Fruit and Yogurt Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Very tasty. Made exactly as directed, however, we did not have the blueberry yogurt, so used what we had on hand, which was strawberry yogurt. My daughter brought it in for snack for her 3rd grade class and she reports it was a big hit.

Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Made these exactly as directed for my daughter's 3rd grade class. She tells me the kids pretty much liked them. We had the leftovers at home and they were pretty crumbly, as others have said. They were not particularly tasty (seemed just mildly sweet to me), but I think I was surprised at the bland taste in the face of the "not so great" nutritional profile, in my view. If they had a healthier nutritional profile, I might have been happier with the taste. But the nutritional profile makes them seem like a bit of an indulgence, and they don't taste like an indulgence, but a healthy snack!

Pizza Popcorn

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Made this as a snack for my daughter's 3rd grade class. My daughter was not so keen on the flecks of spices "contaminating" her popcorn. :) The kids seemed to like it, but I actually didn't think it had that much flavor to speak of.

Peanut Butter Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Made these for my daughter's 3rd grade class. We took someone else's suggestion and made half of them with bananas (we were trying to use up some bananas) but the PB & J ones were definitely the much bigger hit with the kids.

Spinach Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I made this exactly as directed for a family holiday gathering and it was a major, major hit. The other competing dish was "World's Best Lasagna" (also on Allrecipes) and this was an easy tie in popularity. I personally thought it was a little bland, but the dinner company couldn't stop raving (mabye I just couldn't taste it because I had been smelling it in the kitchen). Anyway, great recipe and will probably make again at some point.

Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms II

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
A major, major hit, and always is. I made it exactly as directed, but doubled the number of mushrooms, because I had a lot more stuffing than mushrooms (and always do with this recipe). Also, used "Italian" spicy sausage, and it was great.

Spicy Italian Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Made this for a family holiday gathering and for some reason it was not a major hit -- the other ("regular") salad was eaten much more. I had a lot of this left. I definitely cut back on the onions, but even that didn't seem to make it a crowd pleaser. Nonetheless, it was still pretty tasty in my personal opinion.

Creamy Veggie Fondue

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I agree with others: it was a bit grainy, too thick for dipping, and too salty/spicy for our taste. My father loved it, but no one else at our holiday gathering ate much of it at all. We used raw vegetables for dipping and I used high quality cheeses.

Hot Artichoke and Spinach Dip II

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I agree with everyone else. I made it exactly as directed and it was a major hit at our family Christmas dinner. Tastes very similar to what you get at many restaurants, but not as salty (in a good way).

World's Best Lasagna

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
Made this exactly as directed for the family Christmas dinner and it was a major hit -- everyone wanted the recipe -- even my mother, who has made the same lasagna recipe for 40 years, wanted to replace her recipe with this one. This one is just a tad sweet, which we liked. We wouldn't change anything about the recipe.

Sharon's Awesome Chicago Chili

Reviewed: Dec. 23, 2007
I had to send my husband out to buy the tomatoes (which I forgot) and he accidentally bought "seasoned" canned tomatoes. It didn't seem to make a difference -- this was still delicious. We all loved it, even my picky 8- and 4-year-olds. My husband thought it was a bit sweet, but I like it that way!
