About this Cook
Now that my 3 kids are grown, I find cooking for just my husband and me both exciting and a challenge; exciting because we both like to try new things, and a challenge because I'm used to cooking quantity. Fortunately, leftovers are well-liked by both of us. I'm happiest when the kids, their significant others, friends and additional family are here for a large meal.
My favorite things to cook
Thanksgiving dinner, homemade manicotti, grilling burgers and hot dogs, my meatloaf recipe and any large group meal
My favorite family cooking traditions
Thanksgiving turkey that is a combo Grandma/Martha Stewart/Me recipe. It involves cooking wine in the stuffing and under the breast skin, wrapping the top of the bird in bacon before roasting and the tradition of all of us standing around picking off the bacon an hour or so before serving.

My cooking tragedies
I used the wrong cut of beef for a fancy dinner roast. I was a newlywed, trying to save money and did not really know much about different grades and cuts of meet. Needless to say, my standing rib roast was standing all right - mainly because no one could chew it! On top of it, I undercooked the baked potatoes. A meal I will NEVER forget.

Garbanzo Bean Chocolate Cake (Gluten Free!)
Easy and scrumptious recipe for chocolate lovers, and, oh yeah...it's gluten free as well. My daughter and I are both gluten intolerant and I was looking for a quick, but rich tasting dessert. When I saw the title of this recipe my first thought was, "You have got to be kidding me!" However, since it had such good reviews, I figured I'd give it a try. The recipe was very easy to follow and contained ingredients I always keep around. Instead of powdered sugar, I sprinkled gold sugar sprinkles and served the cake with whipped cream and iced berries. It looked like a cake, smelled like a cake, and tasted like a cake. Both my husband and son were shocked that it was made with chick peas as they thought I had made a brownie cake. I would not hesitate to serve this again even if my guests don't have a gluten problem.
