This gets five stars with my modification. Instead of adding water to cover the vegetables, I added a bottle of clam juice. After putting it together and adding the clams, I added about one cup of bacon crumbles (store bought.) It had thickened so much from everything that I added another half bottle of clam juice. I also used 1 tsp of course kosher salt instead of 1 1/2 tsp regular salt. I've tried the other suggestion of cooking it in bacon grease but I think this method tastes way better and has more bacon flavor, believe it or not. It is really yummy in a bread bowl or served with Garlic Texas toast.
