Almond-Topped Fish

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2008
Eh, this was just ok. I probably won't make it again. Grumpy didn't rave about it either.

Delicious Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2008
This is a good recipe. I personally like to roll the batter in sugar and press criss cross with a fork so I put the batter in the fridge to firm up some (about 2 hours) before rolling and baking.

Buttermilk Pancakes II

I thought these were lacking in flavor. I think next time I would put some vanilla extract in the mix.

Bacon for the Family or a Crowd

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2008
Followed kaysa42's suggestion of cooking on a rack. I also put foil on my jelly roll pan. This took longer than the time stated in the recipe. I baked at 400 degrees for 20 minutes, turned the bacon over because it still wasn't all cooked and crispy and baked for about 7 more minutes. I thought at first my oven was off temp, but the thermometer in my oven said it was at 400. My cooking time just took longer - Go figure.

Best Brownies

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
These have great flavor, turned out fudgy (the way I like brownies best). My only issue was the frosting. I think the 1 cup called for in the recipe is probably not correct. I'm thinking probably 1/2 a cup would be perfect. I put the confectioner's sugar in 1/4 cup at a time and by the time I put in 3/4 cup it was way stiff. I had to patiently put the frosting on the hot brownies letting the heat melt it some so it was easier to spread. Next time I make these, it will be with only 1/2 cup confectioners sugar.

Cream Puffs II

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2008
to ernesta - even though one of the most helpful recipes states you do not have to let the hot mixture set for 10 minutes - the could be your problem. putting the eggs into the hot dough starts to cook them and therefore your dough isn't rising. Good luck!

Jumbo Shrimp and Asparagus

Reviewed: Mar. 12, 2008
I have to re-review this dish. It sat overnight in the fridge. I tried a little of it cold at lunch today and it was actually GOOD. Grumpy had it warmed up for dinner and he said it's a definite keeper! I guess some things just need to sit a bit for the flavor to really be there!

Garlicky Baked Butternut Squash

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2008
I'm giving this 4 stars because I really liked it but Grumpy didn't care for it at all. I think probably because he's not used to savory seasonings with butternut squash. I would eat it again though and it smelled wonderfully garlicky!

Real Italian Calzones

Grumpy really enjoyed these. I had to give it 4 stars though because he would not have eaten it if I had not put some sauce in the calzone.

I had to re-review this. Grumpy now WILL eat this pizza. Yay! lol. The only thing I do differently is I sprinkle some crumbly blue cheese over top. YUM!

Simple Salisbury Steak

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2008
5 stars although I made the mistake of using condensed french onion soup instead of mushroom. I don't know HOW I made that mix up! However, it tasted great. I had to thicken the gravy because of my mixup with the soup. Grumpy loved it! I believe mushroom soup would be just as good.

Raspberry Almond Coffeecake

Reviewed: Feb. 10, 2008
This tasted awesome, but I gave it 4 stars because it the batter was not easy to spread out in the cake pan. It seemed like there should have been maybe a little more "wet" ingredient to mix into the dry. I had to mix a little more than I felt I should. For the glaze, I ended up using the 1/4 C. plus 1/8 C. more confectioner's sugar because 1/4 was just too watery.

Absolutely wonderful bread. I followed the recipe exactly. This one is a keeper. The loaf rose beautifully and the texture is perfect! Thanks to the reviewer who translated the 18 tbsp of water into cup measure for us!

Scalloped Corn

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2008
I'm giving this 4 stars because it wasn't knock my socks of...but it was good. Grumpy said that it was missing something - so when I do make this again I think I will use mexicorn and maybe add some shredded cheddar cheese as others have suggested.

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

I will never buy a boxed brownie mix again. Not only was this easy, but it was the best brownie I have ever eaten! I used semi sweet chocolate chunks instead of chips. Followed the recipe to a T - don't change a thing!

Whole Wheat Oatmeal Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
I did not have dry milk powder so I subbed non fat milk for the water - kept all other ingredients the same. I only used the dough setting - did not bake the loaf in the bread machine. My son was here and had a sandwich made with the bread and he could not stop commenting on how good it was!

Belgian Molasses Bread

This is the softest, sweetest smelling bread! I only did the dough cycle on my bread machine, then shaped the loaf and let it rise in a loaf pan. I will make this one again!

Venison Stew I

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2008
Great taste, but the recipe seems off to me. I only used 1 lb of vension, 3 medium potatoes and 1 cup of chopped carrots with 1 chopped onion. I used the 3 cups of water. I feel if I had used all the potatoes that this recipe called for, then there would have been little broth. I didn't use the whole 1/4 cup of flour either. More like 1 heaping TBSP with 1/4 cup cold water shaken in my tupperware shaker, then stirred into the bubbly mixture to thicken.

Gobi Aloo (Indian Style Cauliflower with Potatoes)

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
This was very good. I made it exactly as stated. I myself could use more spice, but for Grumpy's sake I am glad I didn't. He actually cleaned his portion right up! I would make this again and wouldn't change a thing!
