Cupcakes and stars

Last year to celebrate the 4th of July and some birthday's I made some treats that were geared towards the patriotic side.  The holiday last year was cold and wet - and while we didn't camp out, we did go to camp to spend the 4th with family at Cranberry Lake (which is in the Adirondacks).  We had a couple of birthday's to celebrate so the idea thing to take was cupcakes!

This year I don't have a clue what we are doing on the 4th.  Family we spent the day with last year is going to far away for us and with our current home situation, we can't really afford to go anywhere.  So, I am thinking I will take off work July 1 - 6 and spend some time with Grumpy, find out what my kids and parents are doing (hopefully not working - my youngest son is a manager at Domino's and of course, they don't really take holiday's off entirely) and have a small cookout here at home.

I'm looking for some new ideas for me - so am hoping that any of you who are reading will perhaps leave links to your favorite July 4th celebratory treats?  I will leave you today with some links to recipes I think are appropriate for July 4th!

Your stars turned out so much better than mine! Maybe it's because my 2 year old was helping :) BTW- What is your favorite new blueberry recipe? We just picked tons at my parents!

Kathleen, my very favorite recipe ever with the blueberries IS the Red White & Blueberry Pie. It is SO GOOD. I was thinking this morning about making a blueberry smoothie similar to the mango lassi. I did make a really nice Gingered Blueberry Shortcake last year too that was really yum. The link to the shortcake is

I am working on a lime cheesecake with blueberry topping. Hoping we can actually try it tomorrow!

Everything looks great! We don't really do much celebrating on the 4th, but I'm making blueberries and cream cupcakes with either strawberries or raspberries added to give them a patriotic flair. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out!

About Me
I am a home cook who works full time and have been a blogger on my own site, Grumpy's Honeybunch, since 2007. I love to experiment and create in the kitchen. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but always fun! My one place I am not the best at is the grill - and I leave that to Grumpy! Since I started using AR several years ago, my home life has changed a lot. We had to relocate for work purposes, My sons no longer live at home and its just Grumpy, me, and our 3 cats. I am a participant in the Allrecipes Allstar program and have had a great time with the challenges as well as the great people I have met through the Allstar program!
My favorite things to cook
I always was a baker but since I started blogging almost 5 years ago, I have also become a more experienced cook. We love pasta meals and especially Asian inspired meals. I love homemade candy although I'm not the best candy maker, I will still attempt it every so often. My very favorite sweet treat from this site is Brooke's Bombshell Brownies. I've taken the recipe and used it as a base to create several different brownie recipes, my favorite being "when life gets you down" brownie (chock full of Peanut Butter flavor) and a peanut butter caramel swirled brownie. Both recipes are on my blog
My favorite family cooking traditions
Summer fish frys at my aunt and uncles home. Homemade fudge and popcorn on Saturday nights while a child! When my boys were younger Friday night was homemade pizza and movie night and some of my most special memories are baking cookies with Nanny. I have every one of her "special" cookie recipes on file and when feeling nostalgia hit I will bake one of her recipes.
My cooking triumphs
My best compliment ever - a cheesecake I made was described to be "better than Juniors!" The pumpkin fudge recipe on this site that I reviewed at 5 stars....this is an awesome cooked fudge recipe. My son totally loves the fudge and so do I!
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was first married, I made fudge. It didn't set up and I was too embarrassed to tell my hubby, so I hid it in the closet (no idea WHY I did such a thing!) and ended up forgetting about it. We came across it one day cleaning and I had to fess up, he had more of a laugh because I tried to hide it!
