Yes, I love tofu.  Did you hear me?  :)  I totally love it.  I think I am addicted.  I bet you can't guess what my problem has been in the past with tofu?

If you guessed Grumpy you were right!  The first time I wanted to cook make something with tofu I was met with "you better not try to feed that to me!"  The first time I made it when I was with Grumpy I made a Greek Salad.  True to his word he would not touch it.

I then made General Tso's Tofu.  He still wouldn't touch it.  But then I made Vegan Yum Yum's Sweet Chili Lime Tofu and he changed his mind.  He now will eat tofu as long as it is crispy and with a yummy sauce.  Not a problem for me!  (recipe for VYY Sweet Chili Lime Chili Tofu is in her book.  If you really want it, let me know and I will send you the recipe - link takes you to my blog post where I have photos of the dish.)

While I love the Sweet Chili Lime Tofu - and while it is probably healthier for you, The General Tso's Tofu remains my favorite.  What are your opinions on tofu?  Try it or trash it?

The recipe for General Tso's Tofu can be found on The Life & Loves of Grumpy's Honeybunch.

I always find it strange when people say they don't like tofu. It takes on the flavour of whatever dish you put it in - change up the flavour! And when they say they don't like the texture, well, they've only tried one thing. Tofu might be the most versatile food I've ever heard of. I love it fried and crispy with onions and BBQ sauce on a bun, and I love it soft and fluffy in vegan chocolate mousse. There are some tofu dishes I don't like, but for the most part it's awesome! Good blog, and great looking photos!

Thanks PolkaDot! I love it too. I would choose it over meat anyday!

My Dan the Man has adjusted nicely to tofu, it's healthy, budget&waist wise and can be disguised so nicely as main-meal to dessert and sumer smoothies. I've made it a main part of my budgetary lifestle, in with the beans of every sort and style, tofu along!

Boy HB, that sure does look good! Wow:) My kids bring me fried tofu pieces that are like chix nuggets and they are really good. I should try this. Not sure I would choose it over a rib eye steak but it might be worth a try on a night when I need inspiration. Thank you for giving us an alternative.

I like tofu...I don't eat it all that often, but I certainly don't have a problem with it. My daughter loves it...

I love tofu, too. I get the eye rolls from husband when I make it, but he will choke it down and sometimes admit he likes it!

I absolutely LOVE tofu, but I'm still learning exactly how to prepare it. For instance, I think I cooked my last batch too soon after thawing and it was spongy from not having thawed enough (at least that's what I thought. Still new at this!) The husband will try it, but I don't want him to get a bad idea on those "experimental" dishes where I have no clue what I'm doing - ha!

NN, about the tofu, you should place it between a good thickness of paper towels and set something heavy on it to press the water out. I set my tea kettle on top to press (full tea kettle). It helps tremendously with changing the texture of the tofu. (that is as long as your not using silken tofu). I always use extra firm tofu when cooking General Tao and silken when making things like smoothies. Hope this helps!

About Me
I am a home cook who works full time and have been a blogger on my own site, Grumpy's Honeybunch, since 2007. I love to experiment and create in the kitchen. Sometimes good, sometimes not so good, but always fun! My one place I am not the best at is the grill - and I leave that to Grumpy! Since I started using AR several years ago, my home life has changed a lot. We had to relocate for work purposes, My sons no longer live at home and its just Grumpy, me, and our 3 cats. I am a participant in the Allrecipes Allstar program and have had a great time with the challenges as well as the great people I have met through the Allstar program!
My favorite things to cook
I always was a baker but since I started blogging almost 5 years ago, I have also become a more experienced cook. We love pasta meals and especially Asian inspired meals. I love homemade candy although I'm not the best candy maker, I will still attempt it every so often. My very favorite sweet treat from this site is Brooke's Bombshell Brownies. I've taken the recipe and used it as a base to create several different brownie recipes, my favorite being "when life gets you down" brownie (chock full of Peanut Butter flavor) and a peanut butter caramel swirled brownie. Both recipes are on my blog grumpyshoneybunch.com.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Summer fish frys at my aunt and uncles home. Homemade fudge and popcorn on Saturday nights while a child! When my boys were younger Friday night was homemade pizza and movie night and some of my most special memories are baking cookies with Nanny. I have every one of her "special" cookie recipes on file and when feeling nostalgia hit I will bake one of her recipes.
My cooking triumphs
My best compliment ever - a cheesecake I made was described to be "better than Juniors!" The pumpkin fudge recipe on this site that I reviewed at 5 stars....this is an awesome cooked fudge recipe. My son totally loves the fudge and so do I!
My cooking tragedies
Once when I was first married, I made fudge. It didn't set up and I was too embarrassed to tell my hubby, so I hid it in the closet (no idea WHY I did such a thing!) and ended up forgetting about it. We came across it one day cleaning and I had to fess up, he had more of a laugh because I tried to hide it!
