About this Cook
Well, I've never really been much of a cook simply because I would get sick of cooking the same stuff all the time! You know, the plain old fried chicken cutlets with instant mashed potatoes and canned corn! LOL! However, since I've been using this site, that's all changed! No more cans or boxes for this family! My husband went from barely eating my cooking to now telling me that I should try to either get a job in a bakery or go to culinary school and try to get a job as a chef in a fine restaurant! Finding my knack for cooking has really made my whole family a whole lot happier! Even my 2 girls, ages 10 and 6, are thrilled...especially when I'm working on something that they can take part in. My 10 yr old made me pancakes the other morning!!
My favorite things to cook
Really just about anything new, but I do take a special liking with desert recipes! Cakes, cookies, name it. I've been throwing hints at my hubby that I want a creme brulee set. I tried it for the first time at a very expensive fine restaurant in NYC a few months ago and ever since I've been dying to make it myself. Besides desert recipes, I also love finding recipes for dishes like the kind you would find at an expensive restaurant. AND, I'm always looking for new ways to cook a nice piece of salmon!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Hard to say really. My grandmother was always the great cook in my family. My mother on the other hand...well...not so great LOL! So really, any traditions that I would have would stem from the time spent at my grandmother's house for Sunday dinners and holidays. As far as specific food traditions, it would have to be a kick butt pasta sauce! We're an Italian family so pasta and sauce was ALWAYS on the menu! But I think the true tradition for me personally would be my love for cooking for group get-togethers...holidays, picnics, barbecues, etc. I just love watching a bunch of people standing around and truly enjoying all the different dishes I've set out!
My cooking triumphs
A few years ago I worked in an office with a room of about 13 women and 1 man. Well, we all decided to have a luncheon one day and all bring in a cultural dish. We had Jamaican, Italian, Jewish, Irish. We had our salad. We even had our bread and our beverages. But no would bring the desert. But what to make? My friend from the office gave me a recipe for a cheesecake. A recipe that was used at a very famous restaurant in Brooklyn, N.Y. called Junior's. Junior's was especially famous for their cheesecakes. I took one look at this recipe and thought, "Oh my god, this looks hard!" This was not a recipe for your plain old cheesecake. In any event, I did take it home, and I did make it and the end result was PERFECT! Every single person in my office said it tasted EXACTLY like Junior's!
My cooking tragedies
When I was 16 yrs old, my "boyfriend" at the time was half asian and half latin. His mother, who was asian, was a superb cook! NO chinese restaurant could ever live up to this woman's cooking. Well, I asked her if she could teach me how to make a simple chicken with broccoli in brown sauce. Sure no problem. After the lesson I took off to the store to purchase the items so that I could then run home and make this at home. I swear I did just as she did. (so I thought) and what I ended up with was mush! It was truly inedible.

Awesome!! I followed the recipe to the T, didnt change a thing & it came out PERFECT!! The kids absolutely loved it as well as the hubby!! Ive made it twice already in 2 weeks (the kids kept askin me to make it again!) The best thing about this recipe is its SO quick & simple with few ingredients. Perfect for any night of the week, especially after a long busy day!! I served it with a salad & italian bread!!
