About this Cook
I am a stay-at-home mother of a beautiful 4 year old girl and a proud wife of a dedicated sailor, husband and friend. Though I haven't been on this site as much lately you can always find me on facebook!
My favorite things to cook
Anything! Mostly sweets: cakes, cookies, candy etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every year at Christmas I make homemade caramels and fudge. Once my mother taught me how to make them (especially the caramels) she handed the responsibility over to me. I'm sad to say that I just lost my mother December 13, 2008 and the young age of 67. I love you mom.
My cooking triumphs
Christmas 2007 I made Baklava for the first time. I had never worked with Phyllo dough so I was a little intimidated but it turned out perfectly, I was so proud of myself!
My cooking tragedies
I had watched gravy being made many times by my mom, sister, aunt's so I thought I'd try it myself. Their method is to put water and flour in a shaker, shake it up and slowly pour it into the pan dripping. No one told me the water had to be cold! The first time I tried it (using hot water) the shaker lid exploded and it splattered everywhere! Another one is: I used to have to keep any food put away since my 130 lb. dog was able to put his paws on the counter to grab stuff when we weren't looking. One of my favorite storage places (especially for anything baked in a 9x13) was the oven. I forgot I had brownies in there covered with a plastic lid and preheated the oven. By the time I smelled the plastic it was too late, it melted!

Linda's Lasagna
My grocery store was out of Ricotta so I figured it was a good time to try a Lasagna with Cottage Cheese, I'm not a fan of Ricotta anyway. Followed the recipe exactly except for some added basil and fresh garlic. I do believe I found a new favorite!

Strawberry Cake II
I should've realized that the amount of strawberries for the frosting was too much for the low amount of powdered sugar. Unfortunately, I used the rest of what I had and didn't have more to fix it. Fortunately, I had a block of cream cheese and it saved the icing and is so good! I will forever add cream cheese to this frosting.

Pineapple Angel Food Cake I
Super easy and very yummy! I had to bake mine longer than 25 minutes though.
