Still searching for the perfect cut out cookie icing or frosting

I am getting quite frustrated. I have tried may icing and frosting recipes on here and cannot find the perfect one I am looking for for my cut out cookies. I work better with frosting I think than icing, because I used to a pastry bag. I tried the sugar cookie frosting and icing on here and they were good..but not what I was looking for. I look at other people's cookies on here and mine do not look like that...what am I doing wrong? When I use the icing, it seems like it is runny and I can't get it to outline the cookie properly. The frosting is good, but I want something that I can stack too. Anyone have any suggestions as to what they use for cut out cookies that looks professional and tastes great? Thanks!!
