Still searching for the perfect cut out cookie icing or frosting

I am getting quite frustrated.  I have tried may icing and frosting recipes on here and cannot find the perfect one I am looking for for my cut out cookies.  I work better with frosting I think than icing, because I used to a pastry bag.  I tried the sugar cookie frosting and icing on here and they were good..but not what I was looking for.  I look at other people's cookies on here and mine do not look like that...what am I doing wrong?  When I use the icing, it seems like it is runny and I can't get it to outline the cookie properly.  The frosting is good, but I want something that I can stack too.  Anyone have any suggestions as to what they use for cut out cookies that looks professional and tastes great?  Thanks!!

I have the same problem. I want something thicker than the "glossy" type for sugar cookies, but not too soft-fluffy like some of the recipes. Maybe someone will have some ideas.

Well...I tried again and same thing. I did find that dipping the cookie was easier than spreading. Someone said that they use wilton brushes and paint it on. Maybe I will try that next time. Still waiting for step by step help on it. :(

Hmmm...the other day I tried the Marshmallow Fondant recipe on this site for the "icing" and it looks perfect...but not exactly the taste I was going for.

About Me
I am a wanna be professional baker, wife and mother of an active 3 year old son. My husband is a very picky eater, so I do not get to experiment very much with my cooking or baking with him, so I experiment with my friends and co-workers.
My favorite things to cook
Any sweet treats, from cookies, to cakes, to pies and other desserts.
My cooking triumphs
My Steeler Cake that I made for the 2009 Super Bowl. Everyone raved about it and I had finally found the perfect icing recipe for the whole thing.
