Born in the Philippines but lived in the northeast US on and off since I was a little girl. Earliest baking memories were helping my Irish American grandmother make apple pies (they were the best). Now have a family of my own and love all types of cuisine, but am partial to Asian flavors. Baking is my comfort and I love that I can give my family happy tummies too!
My favorite things to cook
Anything Filipino or Asian, muffins and quickbreads, cakes, stir fried food and noodle dishes. I love to create recipes for food out of things in my kitchen. When I bake, I try to aim for light, healthy, and yummy treats.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When relatives come to visit, spur of the moment sunday afternoon barbeques become scrumptious grilled feasts.
My cooking triumphs
I love throwing things together from my fridge and pantry and come out with one-hit wonders that I, alas, can sometimes not recreate. It adds excitement to the table, with my family knowing they may never taste anything quite like what I just made again.
My cooking tragedies
I've been trying to experiment with slow/crockpot cooking, given the limited time I have with the kids. My first 4 attempts turned out tasteless and everything tasted exactly the same. After I started experimenting on my own with flavors I like, the food came out a little better-- but still every other crockpot creation I make can be inedible for my families traditional gourmet tastes.
