Original Irish Cream

Reviewed: May 28, 2014
I love Irish cream but I don't like the calories that come with it, so I decided I would try to make my own slightly healthier version. I used fat-free half & half and fat-free sweetened condensed milk. I thought I had instant coffee but turned out not to so I used instant espresso instead - it was fine but I think next time I'll add a little less. I've been sipping on this for a few days now and gave it to some company tonight, they said they prefer it to Bailey's (which they find too sweet)

Mock Chopped Liver

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
I made this for a halloween party, and put it in a brain mold. To make it look even more "brainy" I lighty brushed the top with cherry jam after I plated it. It looked great! And it tasted even better. No one guessed that it wasn't liver and everyone was surprised when I told them. One guest said it was the spices that made it taste so much like pate - I had to tell her there were no spices added to it! I have no idea how it tastes like pate/liverwurst, but it does.

Green Grog

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
Everyone at my party really seemed to like this. I didn't add the rum as I had a number of guests who don't drink, but did have a bottle of Malibu rum available for those that wanted to add it. It might have been better with the rum. I found it tasted fine, but very sweet. By the end of the bowl the flavours seemed to have intensified and were quite strong.

Black Halloween Punch

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2011
The taste was fine, I had a bottle of Malibu rum out for those that wanted to add it to the punch for a little more kick. I have to say, it was better with the rum. Mine however was not black, the closest it got was a kind of reddish brown. I did make the ice hand to go in it, which looked fantastic while it lasted. Unfortunately it only took about 5 minutes for the fingers to fall off it. So if you're going to put the ice hand in, make sure you do that just before serving, and perhaps having the punch already chilled would to slow down the melting process.

Soft Sandwich Buns

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2011
I was looking for a good bun for sloppy joes, and these were excellent. I followed the recipe pretty much exactly, although one half of the dough I shaped into a baguette and the other half I made 12 buns out of. All turned out beautifully and I will definitely be making this recipe again!

Sweet Honey French Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2011
I've been having a problem making bread lately and wanted a recipe to test my breadmaker & yeast. I thought I'd try this one and I'm so glad I did. It tasted just a little yeasty although I think I added a little more yeast than was called for. I did have to add a little more water as well but I think that's due to my bread machine. I think with a little more honey this will be excellent. I let the machine make the dough then removed it, kneaded it quickly and formed it into a roll/log to let it rise and bake in the oven. It made a good sized loaf, about the same size I buy at the grocery store. Definitely will be making the recipe again, probably in a few days!

Rhubarb Lemonade

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
Absolutely wonderful. It makes a great, tangy lemonade that everyone loved. My rhubarb wasn't very red so I added a bit of food colouring just to give it that nice pinkish tint. Almost no one guessed that there was rhubarb in it although everone loved the taste of it. Some people told me how great they thought the strawberry lemonade was - they were quite surprised when they found out it was rhubarb. It's a great way to use rhubarb from the garden, and since I freeze a lot of the rhubarb from my plant I'll be able to make this well into the winter if I want to!

Banana Slush Punch

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2011
Excellent punch! I made this for a party and had almost none left over. I agree with previous reviewers about the sugar - nowhere near 3 cups is required, it's quite sweet enough with 1 1/2!

Cranberry Nut Granola Bars

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2011
Made these tonight for the first time - adjusted the recipe a little to add some chocolate chips and coconut, and a bit of honey because the cans of sweetened condensed milk are smaller here. They turned out wonderfully and I"ll definitely be making these again! The taste and texture were just wonderful.

Artichoke Wonton Cups

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I have to give these a "2". I was hoping they would be really good but only a few were tried during my recent party and the rest were thrown out at the end of the evening. It was easy to see why - the wonton cups had a very floury taste to them, and although they were crisp and brown the cheese in the artichoke filling wasn't melted at all. I had some filling leftover that I heated up the next day and used as dip and it was quite nice, but in the wonton cups it didn't work at all.

Hot Spiced Cranberry Cider

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I made this for a recent party and I cannot believe how many comments I had on it and requests I got for the recipe! The only change I made was to add some orange slices to it.
