Split Pea Soup with Rosemary

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2007
This soup is wonderful. I made it last week, and I'm making it again right now. Before this soup, I never tasted split pea soup before, so I was unsure if I would like it. The flavors are wonderful, though it looks sort of yucky. I added more bacon (about 10 slices) to use up what I had, a dash of liquid smoke, an extra onion and carrot, and celery.

Homemade Wine

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2005
As a 20 year old college student, I thought I'd give this recipe a shot. It was really easy to make, except for the wait. I used grape frozen concentrate. I really don't know how alcoholic this is, or healthy (4 cups sugar!) but the flavor is good. I'll probably be making this on and off again for the next few months :) maybe longer, after I taste test some things from a local winery and see what I think. Thanks for the recipe!

Greek Saganaki

Reviewed: Jul. 31, 2005
This stuff is just like a local Greek restaurant's saganaki! I did use the Kass cheese instead. I wanted to flame it like they did in the restaurant, but since I'm under 21, I bought some imitation brandy extract (has 53% alcohol) and I poured some on the cheese, removed from heat, and torched it for a few seconds and then put it out by squeezing a lemon wedge.

Spinach Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: May 7, 2005
I don't know why other reviewers thought this was bland, I thought it was great! I used the whole 10 oz of spinach and ate the rest on the side. Next time, I will double the sauce, add a tiny bit of lemon juice, and maybe sprinkle some mozzarella on top.

Brandy Snap Baskets

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2005
I was really excited to try this recipe! I made my own golden syrup from a recipe I found online, and perhaps that's part of what went wrong. The flavor was great, but I had a big problem getting it to unpeel from my pan, despite heavy oiling, and once I did, it didn't really work when attached to a bowl. I think next time I'll bend it over a small drinking glass, my bowls were too big. Any ideas for how to make it not stick so bad? When it set up it was too rigid, I couldn't get it to separate from my bowl without breaking.

Cheesy Ham and Hash Brown Casserole

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2005
I halved this recipe since I was only preparing it for 2 people, but next time I'll make it as written because we ate a ton, and I like having leftovers for later. I think the cream of potato soup is great with it, use at least one can. I also just sprinkled a little bit of parm on top. Use the sour cream. Really yummy and easy to make!

Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2005
Pretty neat stuff. I didn't have enough honey, so the dryness was my own fault. I added "craisins" and put melted chocolate on top

Beer Cheese Soup II

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2005
I read the reviews and made sure to follow the directions about the corn starch. I even read the negative ones, and figured I'd try it anyway, sometimes people's tastes vary. I didn't like the flavor of it, and could hardly swallow it. I think i'll stick to drinking beer and not using it in soup. :(

Baked Ziti I

I also halved this recipe, and still had plenty of leftovers. A very good dish indeed, glad none of it went to waste. I'll be making it again.

Creamy Dill Dip II

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2005
This was a good dill recipe. I need much more than 2 T of milk to get the consistency I wanted. I served it with carrot sticks and hawaiian bread.

Southern Made Cheese Ball

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2005
Perfect! I made it with 2/3 of the recipe, and it was the right amount for 8 people to snack on with other snacks. More would have been nice though:) I was tentative with the spices at first, just added a portion of them, then realized that the full amounts were best. Instead of putting the cheddar inside, i rolled the ball in it to cover it. I had several guests asking for the recipe!

Sarah's Applesauce

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2005
I have to agree, it's excellent! I left the peels on for added fiber, and cooked them about 35 mins or so. After letting them cool for a little while, I put them in my blender until I got the consistency I wanted. Thanks!

Almost Eggless Egg Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2005
This was extremely realistic to real egg salad. It was nice not to have to boil eggs and deal with that. I do think it needed more mayo or something, it was a little dry. Good time saver!

Black Olive Spread

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2005
I used this in my "eggplant and pepper parmesan" sandwiches. It turned out great! Since the market I went to was actually out of canned olives, I got some Turkish olives from the deli. I had to make this in my blender, and so I had to use more oil than indicated. Thanks!

Eggplant and Pepper Parmesan Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jan. 24, 2005
This was very impressive. I was skeptical of how much I would like it, and my boyfriend didn't like a raw piece of eggplant I gave him. However, the flavor combo of this, wow. Great sandwich! I used the "black olive spread" also featured on the site.

Ranch Dressing II

The mayo flavor was much stronger than I had anticipated. I will try again with less of it. The spices were well selected

Impossible Buttermilk Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 22, 2005
This was very easy and pretty good. Even though I preheated my oven, it took much longer than 30 minutes to make. At the 30 minute mark, it was almost soup, with a thin layer of the crust on top. It took me about 50 mins overal to make, and even now I'm not sure that it's done.

Miso Soup I

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2004
Pretty good, but I should have added more miso to suit my taste. When I make it again, I will put dried seaweed in place of the spinach.
