Me and my fiance
About this Cook
I'm 23 years old, and I'm Greek/Polish. I've been cooking since I was able to reach the stove, and I used to refuse to take naps as a child until I'd watched the cooking shows on TV. All of my friends think I should be in culinery school, but I'd rather cook for fun than for money. Cooking new things for friends and family is truly my passion.
My favorite things to cook
I've been having fun lately figuring out traditional Greek recipes. My all time faves are Pastistio, Avgolemono, and dolmades. When I'm not cooking Greek food, I'm making the spiciest mexican food, really rich Italian, or to die for desserts like caramel apple pie, creme brulee, and mint chocolate mousse.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My father cooks like a typical Greek and refuses to measure things. He also doesn't use recipes. Everything he makes is either a family recipe that was passed on verbally, or something that he comes up with out of the blue. That is why I do much of my cooking without measurements and recipes as well. If I'm trying something out for the first time, I usually look at a variety of recipes to get a basic idea of ingredients and process, then I make it up as I go along.
My cooking triumphs
My major triumph is having my dad say that I'm just as good of a cook as he is. Also, I've become an expert at making the best thanksgiving turkey, gravy, pies, and cranberry bread. The one year I didn't go home for thanksgiving my family got upset because it wasn't the same without my cranberry bread.
My cooking tragedies
I can honestly say my only tragedy is not having enough time to cook as much as I'd like to.

Quick Chicken Marsala
This recipe comes out wonderful everytime. It's become a family favorite. It's really simple, and uses few ingredients, but you can add sauted mushrooms and onions for a little added flavor.
