About this Cook
I grew up with both parents cooking and so we always had home-cooked meals. We all helped out and learned how to cook and take care of the wood stove fire we cooked with. Now I'm living in the "big city" and have all the modern coviences but I still love to go home and cook like before.
My favorite things to cook
Asian food, health food, pies, quiche, Scottish food & just about anything.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My dad often makes sauerkraut in the fall & recently we've been experimenting and making kimchi'i too. Dad also makes dumpling and steams it using a traditional recipe. Mom makes great pie & quiche and she likes to bake cookies.
My cooking triumphs
When I was in Sweden as an exchange student I made quiche for my teenage host brothers. They watched as I put it all together and were kind of skeptical until they tried it. After that they asked me to make quiche for an after-school snack instead of the "fisk pinnar" (fish sticks) that they were used to making. :)
My cooking tragedies
Burning fried eggs the first time I tried cooking on a "modern" stove. (I grew up cooking on a wood-fired stove.) :)

Zucchini Brownies
I must not have had zucchini that was wet enough because I ended up with the same results as magnoliakng. They were dry and nowhere near like any brownies I've ever had or made. I might try it again another time since I like the concept of adding veggies but for now I need something that I can whip up and be done with.

Colombian Turmada Potatoes (Papa Turmada)
This was a good recipe but I felt like the proportions of ingredients was a little off. I used about a half pound of pork sausage instead of the links and probably doubled the amount of onion asked for and it didn't cover the pan very well. The only thing I had more that enough of was potatoes. Other than that it tasted really good, especially with some salsa on top. We're looking forward to eating the leftovers for lunch.
