Sauerbraten V

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2011
I followed a few others marinating it for 3 days then cooking in a slow cooker for 8 hours. The meat shrunk drastically, but it was all still very delicious.

Delicious! I used about 12 oz. of pasta and reduced the broth to 8 oz. I left the rest as called for.

After the Holidays Ham Bone Soup

Reviewed: Apr. 28, 2011
I followed the advice of others. I added garlic, salt, pepper and parsley. I omitted the macaroni and used only rice. I added rice 35 min. before end of cook time and cooked soup for a total 1 hr. 15 min. We thought it was delicious with these changes.

Crepes with Spinach, Bacon and Mushroom Filling

Reviewed: Apr. 15, 2011
The filling was delicious and the crepe recipe a winner. That lemon hollandaise sauce? No go. I will keep the recipe but search for a different sauce.

Fabulous Wet Burritos

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2011
Very wet! Overall good flavor, slightly salty. I omitted the tomato sauce and next time will omit the salt also. Used verde enchilada sauce and only 1 cup of cheese on top. Followed recommendation of others to bake instead of nuke.

Microwave Caramel Popcorn

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2011
This was indeed super fast and easy. The caramel wasn't very strong, but the consistency was just right and the coverage good. I followed the recipe for 8 servings and used it to cover 6 cups of popped popcorn, this was just right. Follow the microwave closely. I cut all cooking times down by almost a minute and kept a close eye on it. Overall, this is a yummy recipe that I will make again.

Feijoada (Brazilian Black Bean Stew)

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2011
Fantastic!! I followed the advice of others and simmered the ham hock for 3 hours and the beans for the same. There was so much meat on the ham hock that I did not add the diced ham called for. On recommendation from my Brazilian sister in law, I added cumin and extra garlic (she said traditionally the meat is simmered with the beans, I liked cooking the ham separately to cut down on added fat). I served over rice that had been cooked with a small amount of minced garlic and 1 tsp. butter (I highly recommend it!). In the future I will fry the bacon and set it aside for later and then saute the garlic and onions in the bacon fat. Omit the diced ham and the cilantro/parsley (not needed at all). This recipe took a long time to cook, but it was worth it and I think that now I've made it I can adjust the recipe in the future to make the cooking time faster.

Sesame Shrimp Stir-Fry

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2011
This was my first ever time cooking shrimp and it turned out excellent. My husband loved it! I served it with "Soy and Ginger" Yakisoba noodles instead of rice.

Meat Pie (Tourtiere)

Reviewed: Mar. 23, 2011
Delish! Recommended changes; half the amount of cinnamon called for. Cook the pork and onions separately then drain off some of the fat (there will be a lot). It said to simmer for 1 hour or until very thick - mine simmered for 10 min. and was as thick as I wanted it. It turned out very tasty and the entire family enjoyed it. I served steamed asparagus on the side.

Fantastic! The flavor was good and it made us all say "yumm" after the first bite. My 4-year old took one bite and said, "This is a yummy dinner, mom". Definitely a keeper.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2011
Absolutely delicious. I used my own homemade chicken broth in place of the water and therefore did not add bouillon. Followed the rest to a T. Served this to guests in bread bowls with the option of adding shredded cheddar. Seriously yummy.

Root Stew

Oddly enough, we liked this dinner. It didn't smell the best while cooking but it tasted good. I did add my spices to our preference but otherwise followed the recipe.

Best Cream Of Broccoli Soup

Delicious, I added two leeks and blended the entire pot. I did add some cream to the roux mixture along with milk and I think that's a nice touch. The whole family ate it up! Served with some fresh focaccia bread.

Tomato Curry Chicken II

Reviewed: Feb. 3, 2011
Delicious! I added just a little extra curry and Garam Masala and 1/4 t. cumin. Next time I will only use 3 potatoes instead of 4. I recommend this version of this dish. My 2 and 4 year old ate it up, now that is awesome.

Pumpkin Spice Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2011
Followed as written except used 1/2 c. oil + 1/2 c. applesauce. Delicious! Next time I'll cook at 340 for 65 min so the edge doesn't cook so fast while the center is still moist.
