About this Cook
I am a recent college graduate. I have belonged to Allrecipes for a couple of years now but have really started utilizing it over the last year. I don't know what I would do without this site! I love my cookbooks but there really is something to be said about the reviews of each recipe. I have all of the allreceipe.com cookbooks but still come to the site to read reviews before I make a dish! I was never really allowed to cook as a child, my sister did most of it growing up. Now my family can hardly believe that I am the cook my boyfriend raves about. I finally have a big kitchen with lots of room. I think that, paired with a great recipe, can turn a decent cook into a great cook!
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new dishes. I come to this site almost daily for new inspiration. I used to follow recipes to a T but now find myself experimenting and trying my own style. It's really fun. I think people should never be afraid of cooking, although I once was. Take baby steps and eventually you'll find your own style. It's also lots more fun if you have a willing guinea pig to try out all your new meals. My favorite things to cook are homemade meals from scratch, especially when you can buy the alternative from the grocery store. Homemade is always better!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I absolutely love any meal that brings an entire family around the table. I have fond memories of my father's huge family all coming together for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Easter. Nothing will ever be able to compare to the feeling of being surrounded in love and good food. My grandmother was a fantastic cook and could cook anything, whether baked goods or main meals. She was such an amazing lady and any meal at her house was always special.
My cooking triumphs
My sister has always been such a great cook regardless of what it was she was cooking. Her specialty, though, was pies at family gatherings. She always made the best ones and they were also the prettiest. Family members would race eachother for slices so she eventually had to bring more to each function. This past Thanksgiving, she was unable to come home so I volunteered to make the pies. I decided to make them from scratch which was ambitious since I had never made a pie before much less from scratch. I used two recipes from this site and they were both a huge hit! I had family asking for the recipes. It was a long awaited triumph!
My cooking tragedies
This is a favorite among my family. When my sister and I were ten and six, we made our first batch of chocolate chip cookies without any help. We popped the cookies in the oven and went off to play while they were baking. We must have left them in too long because soon you could smell burnt cookies. We were devastated. As we were crying, my dad came in to see what the fuss was about and exclaimed that he LOVED burnt cookies and he was so happy that we had made his favorite! He ate every single one of them. It became a tradition to make a batch of burnt cookies just for Dad whenever we made cookies from then on out. That is, until two years ago. My sister and I were 24 and 20 years old when on Christmas two years ago we were making the traditional batch while my dad watched. My dad hung his head and finally broke his silence. He couldn't stand burnt cookies and asked that we make him a batch of 'good' cookies. At that moment, I knew I had the best father in the world!

Extreme Banana Nut Bread 'EBNB'
Not the most amazing banana bread I've ever had. Needed more banana. For the calories, I expected more taste. Everyone who has tried it has liked it though. Thanks!

Lemon Chicken III
I tried this because so many people raved about it. I only marinated for two hours hoping that would tame the strong lemon taste other reviewers mentioned but to no avail. We ended up ordering in. Sorry!

Mrs. Sigg's Peanut Butter Cookies
These were good but not outstanding. There's a cookie place where I live that is just amazing. Maybe if I'd never had their cookies, these would be a five. Not enough peanut butter for my tastes. For that many calories, I didn't feel they were worth it. Mine also didn't stay as soft for as long as I like. I even put them in the freezer for about ten minutes before baking. But a decent recipe and one I've gotten requests for. I will still look for that perfect peanut butter recipe though.
