Whipped Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 12, 2007
These cookies are delicious! They truly melt in your mouth. Be careful about how long you bake them, mine took about 10 mins at 350. I didn't add anything extra but I did beat them for about twice as long as was recommended. The cookies in the photo are DEFINITELY not these! To make mine a bit fancier I used a piping tool to sqirt out swirly shaped cookies and place the cherries at the peaks. yum yum yum, all my friends are begging for the recipe!

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I was expecting something a bit more special than this. I found the cookies lacking a bit in the flavour department. I did, however find the dough very easy to work with and to spruce up my batch, I added food colour to 1/2 the dough and rolled out lovely green tree shaped cookies. These cookies absolutely need to be frosted or iced, as they are a bit dry and dull on their own. I also found the cooking temp is a bit high. I baked mine at 350 for about 6 minutes and they turned out nice. I love sugar cookies, and these were ok, but this is not the recipe I will use from now on.

Decorator Frosting

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
I used this frosting on gingerbread and sugar cookies. It has a really nice flavous and is soft and fluffy. great for speading or piping onto cookies. My single problem was that the recipe made WAY too much frosting! I planne don using it to ice my batch of gingerbread and used lots on them but still had dtons left. I hate to waste, so the next day I made suger cookies and frosted those too! Still I ended up chucking about a cup of frosting. That said, I will use this recipe again but I will definitely 1/2 it. If you do have leftovers and plan to use them within a couple days, put the frosting in a bowl, and cover tighly with saran wrap. When you're ready for it it will be very firm. Either leave the frosting sitting out for 2 hours or so before you will need it or microwave it for about 5 seconds. It returns fairly well to its original consistency.

Oatmeal Shortbread Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
These cookies are super easy to make and taste great! I left my dough in the fridge over night and then just before baking, placed them in the freezer for about 15mins. I found it made the dough easier to work with. I placed marischino cherry peices on top for decoration. My roommates loved them!

Mild Cheesy Chicken Enchiladas

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2007
An EXCELLENT, flavorful recipe! I cant stand olives so I omitted them and replaced them with chopped red and green pepper. I think it spruced up the appearance a bit and it tasted great too! I also used light sour cream.

Roast Chicken with Rosemary

Reviewed: Jun. 16, 2008
This was my first time oven-roasting a chicken and it came out beautifully. The onions were my favourite part, which is odd because I don't usually like onions at all. I rubbed olive oil and lemon juice under the skin of my bird and sprinkled crushed rosemary on top. Everyone loved it, and I will make it again!

Grandma Weld's Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 5, 2008
I omitted chilling the dough because I found it tough and crumbly to begin with. These cookies taste OK, but are nothing special. They also take FOREVER to bake (mine took almost 20 minutes!) and it was really hard to tell when they were cooked because they didn't brown up at all. I tried this recipe because my usual recipe contains brown sugar and I was all out.

Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
This tasted excellent. I will definitely make it again, but next time I will cut the sauce recipe in half, it made WAY too much liquid.

Butter Flaky Pie Crust

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
This was ok. It was usable, but the top layer of my pie came out kind of tough, not flaky like the recipe suggests. The flavour was just mediocre, nothing special.

Aunt Bev's Famous Apple Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2010
Delicious but WAY too many apples for 1 pie. I made 2 pies with this filling and still had leftovers.

Yummy and very easy to make. I wish it had a denser consistency though, it was very light.

Berry Oatmeal Muffins

Reviewed: Mar. 11, 2010
These are delicious! Although, I changed the recipe so much that I can't even be sure they could be considered the same :) I used 1 cup of oats and omitted the wheat germ, used raspberries instead of blueberries and sliced almonds instead of walnuts. Instead of vegetable oil I used 1/4 cup of olive oil and 1/4 cup of unsweetened organic applesauce. Oh, and I used whole wheat flour. Deeeeeelish!

Fast and Easy Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2010
These are very eggy in texture, sort of rubbery. And I agree with other reviewers, they are much too sweet for pancakes.

Butter Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
I made this as cupcakes for a bake sale (2 batches made 24 cupcakes, baked for about 25 mins). I found you really have to watch how long you cook them, ake from the oven at golden yellow, don't let them brown at all. They sold out at the bake sale almost immediately and were absolutely delicious! Very buttery and moist. Expect a denser texture than with mixes or store bought cakes, that is just the way of scratch cakes. I don't understand where people are getting the cornbread impression... Apart from the yellow colour (thanks to the egg yolks) there was nothing cornbread about this cake.

Quick and Easy Pizza Crust

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2011
This is my go-to pizza crust recipe. I sub in whole wheat flour and it turns out really well. It's super quick and easy and I always have the ingredients in my cupboard. I keep pre-portioned pizza sauce in the freezer ready to go, so when I can't figure out what to make for dinner, this is usually it!

Cranberry Icebox Cookies

Delicious! Looks and tastes similar to a biscotti, though mine came out a bit soft. These would definitely go really well with a cup of coffee :)
