Maybe it's a southwest thing? I don't understand all the comments about "never heard of adding 1/2 & 1/2 or any kind of milk to calabacitas." It is the only way I've ever had it. I like that it makes it creamy. I also mix in my cheese, rather than just letting it melt on top.

Husband who always puts its nose up at "chicken", loved it. Actually mentioned that we should make it and have friends over.

Pasta Poblano

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2010
YUM! Husband and son devoured it. Used 2 poblanos. Love the trick of cooking poblanos with the noodles-- they were tasty even before they went into the sauce.

Stephanie's Freezer Spaghetti Sauce

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2010
Used fresh basil, oregano and rosemary, since that's what I had. Taste was a little sweet, will decrease sugar the next time. Also was a bit to liquidy, even after adding paste to serve, but will just use a little more tomato paste. All in all, quite a success!

My fiance, who doesn't eat "green things" actually ate quite a large helping! Will definitely make again. Used a little extra onion then recipe called for.

Southern Gumbo

Reviewed: Oct. 18, 2009
This recipe was very much a hit in my family! My fiance is never quite sure about trying new recipes, but this one got rave reviews. All of our bowls were spotless after eating. The only thing I added was a bit of file powder.

Christmas Morning Oatmeal

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
To avoid burning my crockpot, I used a Reynolds turkey cooking bag and lined my crockpot with it. I made this for my husband's family and they loved it- even the avowed non-oatmeals eaters! Just because I love the spice with apples, I added cardamom to the spice mix. I tripled this recipe (I have a very large crockpot) and it held up just fine. The only thing I would do differently, when I enlarge the recipe is cut back on the cinnamon, because tripling that was way too much. I loved the combination of cranberry and nutmeg. This also reheated very very well-- after leaving my husband's family, the oatmeal sat for about and hour and half, before I plugged in the crockpot again at my parents, and it warmed back up delightfully.
