Slow-Cooked German Short Ribs

Reviewed: Nov. 7, 2012
I followed some other reviewers and cut back brown sugar, doubled the sauce, and left out the vinegar. I also did not have chili sauce so I combined ketchup, hot sauce, and a little garlic sauce. I made them the night before, let sit in the fridge, then skimmed fat off the top and reheated for dinner the following day. I did not have to add the flour/water mixture to the sauce, I thought it was thick enough as-is, and perfect for scooping over mashed potatoes. I have a few more packs of short ribs in the freezer and I will definately be using this recipe again. They were fall-apart tender and the flavor was wonderful!

Pumpkin Ginger Cupcakes

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2010
I followed the recipe exactly except for using pumpkin pie spice in place of individual cinnamon/nutmeg/allspice/etc. I also topped mine with the Cinnamon Cream Cheese frosting that can be found with the Pumpkin spice muffin recipe on the site. They were an absolute hit! They disappeared so fast, I only got to try one of the whole 2 dozen that I made. I think the frosting really put these over the top from great to irresistable!

Stuffed Kielbasa

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2009
This was a great way to try out some kielbasa we just made with venison and pork. I did not have saurkraut so I took the advice of another reviewer and used sauted onion instead. I also used shredded jack cheese because it's what I had on hand. My fiance and I both really liked it, we will definately use this recipe again.

Wow - these are so simple and absolutely delicious! My fiance loves these, and they are great hot out of the oven with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Sour Cream Chicken Paprika

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2009
Based on reviews complaining of bland flavor and runny sauce, I put my own spin on this one. I added a little cajun seasoning to the chicken with the paprika. Then, because I love sauce and lots of it, I added a whole can of cream of mushroom soup; would have used cream of chicken but was out. I added about 1 cup of chicken broth, mixed an additional 1/4 cup broth with corn starch to help with sauce thickening and it worked great, I ended up with a perfect consistancy. To get rid of some stuff in the fridge, I added 1/2 of a chopped orange bell pepper and about 5 cloves of ROASTED garlic when sauteing the onion. At the very end, I stirred in about 1.5Tb chopped fresh parsley. Served this over egg noodles. My fiance and his 15-yr old son both had seconds, and the teenager said it was "killer good" and asked when I would make this again!

Bacon Wrapped Hamburgers

Reviewed: Mar. 4, 2009
These were very good! I followed the recipe other than using minced garlic and onion powder instead of the real thing (I was out). I had no problem with the consistancy, but I also cooked mine on the stove becuse it was too cold to grill. I tried both wrapping the bacon around the edge of the burger and top to bottom - both worked, but having it around the burger I had to shape it around the patty so that it would cook evenly. I added some sauted mushrooms when they were done, absolutely delicious.

Hal's Wine Mustard

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2008
I made this for christmas gifts last year and everyone loved it! I have many people now expecting to get some of this again this year for christmas. My fiance's son also loved it, and he claims to hate any kind of mustard "except that one that Crystal makes at christmastime"! thanks hal!

Cod Fish Cakes

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
Found this recipe while searching for a way to use all the fish in my freezer from my fiances fishing trips. I'm not a huge fan of fish, but these were really good! I did add bread crumbs to the mixture and also coated each cake with them, they were much too soft without. I added some seasonings - garlic powder, seasoned salt, cajun - but would add more next time to give it a little more kick. I had the deep fryer out for onion rings, so used it to cook these - lots of fat, I know, but it worked really well. Served them with some lemon-dill sauce and my fiance was already planning on when we should have them again before he had finished eating!

Bob's Habanero Hot Sauce - Liquid Fire

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2008
This was so good! Didn't have yellow mustard, so I added some mustard powder instead, along with a few cloves of garlic. I thought it was similar to a jerk sauce. Just used some on fried chicken wings last night with rave reviews from the fiance and his son. Will definately be using this recipe to deal with the pile of habaneros i got off my plant this year - and probably for years to come! Thanks for the awesome recipe!

Creole Chicken I

Reviewed: Aug. 4, 2008
Like many reviewers, I used this recipe as more of a "base" and added flavors to suit my own taste - canned chipotle peppers and chili oil for heat, no green peppers or tomato paste, cajun seasoning, fresh thyme, a few cloves of garlic and some Gumbo file. Turned out very good, just the right amount of kick. Will definately make this again.

Chuck's Favorite Mac and Cheese

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2008
While this wasn't the very best mac and cheese I've ever had, I thought it was so quick and SUPER easy, and it was really delicious. I added a little paprika and garlic powder, and accidently bought italian seasoned bread crumbs at the grocery store (turned out good though), but other than that I followed the recipe exactly. I only got to have a small bowl of the finished product before the rest was devoured by my fiance and his son. The 14 year old has already requested it again, and it's only been a day!

Hugh's Dry Rub

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2005
This was really good! I took the advice of other reviewers and cut the Cayenne in half - but next time I'll use the full amount, I like some spice. I used it on ribs that I left in the fridge overnight with the rub, then put them in the slow-cooker the next morning with some sauce. Eight hours later, you could pull the bones clean out of the meat! I also added a bit of the rub to the baked beans I made to go with the ribs. It gave them a nice flavor that complimented the meat.

Chili I

Reviewed: Sep. 13, 2004
I made this Chili for a Super Bowl party, and everyone loved it! I used all cubed beef and no ground (just a personal preference) and added more Cayenne for an extra kick. This is now my standard chili recipe!
