I was very excited to make this recipe and I thought it would come out great based upon all the rave reviews but I was very disappointed. I had two problems: 1) they came out very dense and had a weird texture for a pancake, 2) The flavor was between ok and poor, even though I added vanilla to the recipe. Aside from the vanilla the only other change that i made was that I used 3/4 of a cup of real buttermilk instead of souring the milk with vinegar. I felt that the buttermilk would add more of a flavor but it didn't. I made sure not to over stir the batter as some people pointed out but somehow they came out really poorly. On a positive note, they looked good and they puffed up really well. I am not really sure what I did wrong. I do believe my temperature was off by 25 degrees. I was thinking it needed to be 350 but it should be 375. Perhaps it cooked too long due to the temperature being off and got dense because of it. I may try it again and see if I get better results. I felt like it was an error that I made since others loved them so much.
