Awesome Slow Cooker Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2005
This is fabulous! It's a never fail recipe. I've cooked it in a 250* oven all day as well as the crockpot method, both give you a roast that is so tender it falls apart and a nice gravy. Yumm! Thanks Brenda.

Brown Bean Chowder

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2005
This is my dear Grandma's recipe. She was a dietician and ran Tulsa's John Ross Elem school cafeteria for several generations. This tastes very similar to Campbell's fiesta chili beef soup. I let it cook about 30 min longer for flavors to blend. I cut the salt down to only a tsp. but you can do this to taste. Great for picky eaters as there are no chunks of tomato or onion or other undesirable veggie. I serve this with cinnamon rolls, because that is how the schools always served it, so it's tradition. Delicious! Never any leftovers here.

Tacos De Matamoros

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2006
Mmmmm...these are authentic TexMex tacos indeed. They were very very good. These aren't spicy or not at all like the dried package taco mix tacos, this is more subtle, just like you'll get in any South Texas Taqueria when you order the crispy taco. Don't expect Taco Bell as this is definitely not it. This is real mexican home cookin'! This is easy to spice up to your preference. The second time added 1/2 t. chipotle chili pepper powder, and doubled the chili powder. Easy to fix, very tasty, definite TexMex flavor here. Thanks Rhonda35, I love all your recipes, I wish you had more to share, they are good home cooking! I use ground round or sirloin and don't have any grease to drain. I also use chicken broth in addition to the water when cooking the beef. I don't drain any juice, I just simmer it until it has reduced adding more broth (chicken or beef whatever is handy) as needed.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2006
Easy and unususal way of making the glaze on the bottom. Very tasty meatloaf. My husband thought it was too sweet. I'll give it 4.5 stars. Will make it again (with a little less brown sugar for hubby). Son loved this recipe.

Self Frosting Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2006
These did "frost" themselves. They were okay. Came out dry and crunchy. They did not spread while baking. Good flavor, but not a chewy tender cookie. Probably won't make these again.

Lentils and Rice with Fried Onions (Mujadarrah)

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2006
I have never had this with the yougurt, but on it's own it is really good. I love the onions on top, they make it the best. Lots of flavor here, but not spicy or hot.

Ann's Sister's Meatloaf Recipe

Reviewed: Jan. 30, 2006
The meatloaf was delish. The first time I made this one we wished there had been more glaze. This time I used plain ketchup on top instead and we loved it! Nice flavor and sooo easy to make. There was none left for sandwiches tomorrow. I cut this in half for 3 of us. Thanks!

Garlic Rosemary Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
Oh these are so very good! I was hesitant to try, because my guys are mashed potatoes and gravy guys, but everyone liked these and no one even asked if we had any gravy. I'll fix these again.

Garlic Chicken Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2006
This is fantastic. I have used chicken and cube steak, both are wonderful. Be careful using seasoned bread crumbs, one brand I bought had crushed red pepper in it. I've used plain toasted bread crumbs too and it comes out fine. Finely crushed corn flakes also works in place of bread crumbs.

Angel Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: May 2, 2006
This is incredible easy and so delicious. The last time I made this for a family get together, a couple of my nieces were like, "Ew, I don't eat chicken" and later they were asking for seconds. Especially the sauce. This is always a winner!

Fried Apple Pies

Reviewed: May 2, 2006
These are my family's favorite! The crust came out texturally just like the Hostess fried pies you buy from Hostess only much much better and way tastier. I drizzled a vanilla glaze over and should have dipped them like the Hostess ones, as it would have been better with glaze all over instead of just patches. The made plenty of filling but I have to double the batch because they don't last long. I have also used various canned fruit pie filling with fabulous results. These reheat well in the microwave and are just as good the next day.

Homesteader Cornbread

This had great flavor, was very dense, heavy. A good recipe. A little heavier and denser than I prefer, but I might make it again. Not too grainy, gritty, or coarse.

Glazed Meatloaf II

Reviewed: May 9, 2006
This is a fantastic easy meatloaf recipe. Makes a wonderful glaze that my family loves. My husband asked for the leftovers to take with a loaf of bread to work for sandwiches tomorrow. I used dried minced onion, 1 T and put the glaze on right from the start so it baked in good and gooey. Thanks Delia, this is great!
