Peanut Butter French Toast

Hmmm, different. I used unsalted butter to cook with instead of oil. I had enough batter to dip 8 pieces of bread so this actually ended up making 4 servings not 2 as stated unless you are cooking for a big eater like Hungry Jack or Jethro Bodine. I thought it was okay but I would rather not have it again, but my hubs loves peanut butter and syrup so I am sure this something he would love. The peanut butter kept wanting to sink to the bottom and it really didn't mix it well even though I used a whisk and kept stirring it even between bread dippings. Thanks for the idea Jessiker, I enjoyed making a new fun recipe!

Homemade Taco Seasoning Mix

This made great beef taco filling. I used this for a pound of ground beef and used a little more than 3/4 of a cup of chicken broth and let it simmer until the liquid was gone, which was about 15 minutes on med-low. This wasn't spicy, but certainly not bland either and it didn't need anything to make it better. I did use the cayenne and crushed red pepper and used kosher salt instead of sea salt. Great recipe, thanks Kathy!

Onion Rice

This was a mild flavored rice that would be a great side dish with just about anything. I only used a third of a large Texas sweet onion and used a little more oil than called for because as soon as the onion was translucent I added the dry rice in and cooked it until it was starting to turn light golden, then I added a dab of minced garlic stirred it in and cooked for less than a minute and finally added in the broth. I forgot the black pepper but it didn't need it after all. Definitely a wonderful rice recipe and I will be making this again. Thanks Denyse!

Hot Jam Breakfast Sandwiches

Absolutely delicious! This was very sweet and tangy with the apricot. Perfect for summer as it is tropical in flavor. You could leave the coconut out or sub cream cheese if you don't like/want/have it. I sprinkled this with some powdered sugar because it sounded good. Not just for breakfast, this could be a great after school treat, dessert, brunch, or midnight snack. Thanks Gloria, this is a fantastic recipe!

Raisin Finger Sandwiches

Fastest, easiest, and tasty breakfast. This would be a great snack or appetizer too. I love raisin toast with cream cheese and never ever thought to just do this. Great little recipe, great little snacks. Thanks Jeannie!

Shoyu Chicken

This was really easy to fix and tasted great. I let this marinate for almost 6 hours and used chicken tenders. I hated not using the marinade though for a sauce so the next time I'm going to try the stovetop method like another reviewer suggested. I used a quarter of the cayenne and crushed red pepper called for. This had barely any heat/spice to it so I will probably do half the next time. I used ginger paste instead of fresh grated. I really liked this, DH wouldn't try since there was soy sauce and ginger involved. Lucky me, that means more leftovers for me! Thanks this was good and I would fix this again.

Famous Taco Seasoning Mix

This is very good. I used it to make a taco soup and it turned out perfect. I don't know how tacos turn out but the soup was 5 stars. Thanks Kel for a great recipe! UPDATE 6-25-12 This made great tacos. I used 2 T flour as called for but it probably could have used less as the submitter suggests in her review. I will make this again.

Taco Soup III

The best ever. Oh my this is delicious! It has a good deal of kick to it without being overly spicy. I only had a third of a Texas sweet onion left and used frozen corn instead of hominy. I added an half can of tomato soup that was in my refrigerator and a can of beef consomme when it needed additional liquid. I used "famous taco seasoning mix" found here, and a half tsp of cocoa powder and a pinch of oregano. You definitely want to add the sour cream and the cheese as it mellows the heat and finishes the dish. Sliced avocado would have been all I needed to make it better. I topped this with some crispy tortilla chips, YUM!.Thanks, I will be making this again and again!

Grandma's Easy Shells

Very kid friendly meal. A bit bland for me though and it really needed something. I added a hefty pinch of cayenne and it was sooo much better after that. There was just barely enough sauce to cover each noodle. This reminded me of the FrancoAmerican canned spaghetti I loved as a child. As an adult I'm not too impressed but it is filling but I'd fix this again for a bare pantry day before payday meal. This has lots of room for personalization and is a good starting off point. Thanks Amy, this was a nice lunch overall and brought back good childhood memories.

Swabian Meatballs (Fleischkuechle)

This was filling and it really stretched a pound of meat to several servings. These were very moist inside and had a nice crisp crust on the outside. I thought it was really bland though and it seemed to be screaming out for some type of sauce, or maybe that's just my southern cook thinking. My husband didn't care for this at all. It was okay but it just wasn't something we'd care to serve again here. Thanks though as I enjoyed trying out a new recipe :)

Hot Ham 'N' Swiss

Easy to fix and fast too. This would be great for breakfast and better with bacon instead of ham. It seemed like it needed something for flavor. The ham made the bread beneath it very soggy and I didn't like that at all. Great idea though. Thanks Debbie.

Grilled Triple-Decker Club

This was a great idea. It was a lot of sandwich though and I only ate half. The middle was trying to slip out as I was eating so I wouldn't serve it to younger ones who may have trouble with this meal. It seemed like it needed a little something for flavor but I am not sure what maybe Dijon or some onion or horseradish mixed in with the mayo? Cute idea but not too practical and meant for sharing, unless you are feeding a hungry teen.

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sushi Rolls

Don't completely flatten bread or it will stick to whatever surface you flattened it on. Or use waxed paper or parchment since a paper plate didn't work well. Mine didn't look anything like the picture and were messy to eat with the filling oozing out when you took a bite. Cute idea, but not impressive.

Beginner Chicken and Dumplings

This was delicious and easy. I used onion powder and chicken broth instead of bullion cubs ans water and all boneless chicken breasts instead of thighs. I added in a couple of stalks of cut celery instead of fresh onion and tossed in some frozen carrots and peas just before adding the dumplings on top. I wanted the broth creamier so I added another can of soup. Don't turn the dumplings over, I never have in any recipe and they always turn out fine without it. Use a large pan though as the dumplings rise a lot and they need to room to expand. Great recipe!

Jamie's Sweet and Easy Corn on the Cob

This was so easy and it came out crisp and not mushy at all. I used frozen cut corn. I couldn't even taste the lemon juice. I thought it would make this bitter but all it did was make this fresh and crisp. Fabulous corn! Thanks for sharing your mother in law's great recipe.

Big Game Grape Jelly Barbeque Ham Sandwiches

Easy and tasty sandwiches. A little sweet and a mild barbecue sauce. I scaled this down to 2 servings and it was really good. I made the sauce and simmered it for about five minutes then added in mesquite shaved ham from the deli and let this simmer on low for almost an hour. The sauce was thin and watery though and I would have preferred a thicker stick to your ribs type sauce. This was simple and delicious and I would serve this to company. I'm not sure what sweet chili sauce is as I don't think they mean the asian type so I used plain ol' Heinz chili sauce it wasn't premium or anything just the original standard one. Very good! This is one of the better recipes I've tried for this. Thanks for posting I will use this again.

Pittsburgh Chipped Ham Barbecues

This was really simple to put together and used things I normally keep on hand. I used mesquite smoked deli shaved ham and mesquite liquid smoke. This had a bit of a bite and was tangy. I didn't care for the pickle flavor though. The sauce was runny and much too thin for my liking. This barbecue sauce had an off flavor like it needed something to balance it out. Overall it was alright but I probably won't fix this particular recipe again. Thanks for sharing though as I always love trying out a new recipe and dish!

Awesome Korean Steak

This was really easy and very fast in cooking time. Great for a weeknight as you prep one day and finish the next so it really doesn't take much time at all. We thought this was rather sweet though and my husband said it tasted like beef jerky. The flavor, not the texture or any reflection on my cooking abilities. :) I don't know whether or not I would fix this again as we liked it but it didn't make our favorites. The cut of beef was not as tender as I would have liked. I didn't have shallots so I used chives. Thanks for a nice meal, we enjoyed having something new and different.

Buttery Cooked Carrots

This was a huge hit here with my husband. I love carrots fixed any which way you can think of so they were a hit with me as well. Sweet and delicious. I only added a little salt to the mix since i was using unsalted butter. Thanks Beckie!

Skillet Beef and Macaroni

This was a man pleasing meal. It was pretty much standard midwestern goulash but my hubs liked it so much he just kept eating long after he was full. I only had a pound of beef, and added a little less than half a can of beef consomme when the liquid evaporated but the pasta wasn't quite done cooking. I thought this was just okay, but my man really loved this dish. Thanks Maxine!
