Creme Brulee French Toast

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2012
I loved this recipe and only made a few minor changes. I halved the recipe, used two eggs (rather than 2 1/2), swapped Triple Sec for the Grand Marnier, and used as many slices of bread as would fit in an 8x8 square pan (I think it was 5), with the crusts left on. I'm normally indifferent to sweet breakfast foods, but this was so rich and delicious, it was almost like eating dessert for breakfast. Definitely on the "make again" list!

Classic Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: Jul. 18, 2012
I think the dressing for this is perfect as-is and it tastes as good as the stuff you buy in the deli section! I do leave out the celery and carrot though, since we don't like them raw, and increase the peppers to compensate. I'll also substitute fresh red peppers for the pimientos if that's what we have on hand.

Broccoli with Rigatoni

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2007
This was a good basic recipe that, after my improv tweakings based on what I had on hand, was fantastic. My changes: I roughly quartered the recipe and cooked the rigatoni in diluted beef broth. I used ~1/2 cup leftover lightly steamed frozen broccoli and supplemented that with half a can of sliced mushrooms, drained. I used margarine instead of butter along with the olive oil and sauteed the mushrooms before adding the garlic (jarred, minced, increased to ~3/4 Tbsp). I added beef broth instead of veggie and dried basil instead of fresh (decreased to ~1/2 Tbsp). Finally, when I added the broccoli, I also put in a splash of lemon juice and a ladle of pasta water/broth. There were no leftovers. :)

Spicy Orange Beef

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2007
This was pretty tasty. I subbed a smaller amount of red wine vinegar for the sherry, so it ended up being a little tarter than I would have liked. I also followed reviewers recommendations and marinated the steak first in soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and a little lemon juice and vinegar. I added stirfried onion, bell pepper, and water chestnuts to the sauce as well. as well. Good base recipe.
