I'm a retired social worker who is married to a guy who goes around bragging about my cooking. We have two daughters and 5 grandchildren, some of whom spend quite a bit of time with us. My life centers around my family.
My favorite things to cook
I get a lot of satisfaction from making anything that I can share with friends and family, especially pastries. I am always happy when I manage to come up with a dish that all my grandchildren love, as they usually differ in their likes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom was a great cook with a German and English emphasis. She ran a catering business after raising 8 children. I like old European traditional cooking but also love casual California.
My cooking triumphs
I have a bit of a reputation for my desserts and baking in general. At a recent church potluck, a young woman at our table asked what I had brought. It had been a rough week, so I had cheated and bought a pie. She gasped, "Whaat, Youuuu???"
My cooking tragedies
Many, but one stands out. Shortly after I was married and still in school,we barely had money to eat. Dinners were often spaghetti or rice with no sauce. I made a dish that was layers of polenta and cottage cheese for dinner. Not only did my earthenware dish crack in two due to my "500 degree only" oven, but it tasted horrible.

Busy Day Chicken
My 6-qt. cooked this chicken to mush in 8 hours. The bones can deteriorate, splinter and become dangerous for young children to deal with. I will have to play with timing on this recipe and will use some boneless skinless thighs and breasts combined in the future.

Asian Burger Soup
Quick and easy dish for the kids! Be sure to cut firm veggies small enough to cook in 3 minutes, or precook a bit. I think this would also work well with ground turkey and chicken broth. I ditched the peppers because of young ones, and put the onions in with the sprouts to mellow them. I just realized, I might have left out the water, which might account for enough flavor. Could be an idea to leave the water until last and add to your own desired concentration.
