Southern Candied Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
Made these for Thanksgiving and they were fabulous. I did cut back a little on the nutmeg (personal preference), but other than that I made these exactly as written. This will be a regular side dish at our Thanksgiving table.

Sweet Potato Bread I

Reviewed: Dec. 8, 2009
Awesome bread! It's actually exactly the same as my pumpkin bread recipe except for the amount of salt and of course using sweet potatoes instead of pumpkin. It is moist and delicious and a great way to use up leftover sweet potatoes.

White Cake Frosting I

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2009
For those having trouble with the frosting separating: I was told that since Crisco is now trans-fat free it does not mix well with water. If you are using Crisco you will have to substitute the water with milk. If you can find a store-brand shortening that has trans fat (not healthy, I know :-) then you can use that shortening with water and it should work fine for you.

Unbelievable Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2009
Yep, it's unbelievable alright! I made the recipe exactly as written and marinated overnight. I love that this marinade uses ingredients I always have on hand. I will use this recipe again and again!

Taco Casserole

Reviewed: Jun. 2, 2009
We didn't care for this one. I think it was the noodles. I guess we prefer a taco casserole with tortillas instead of pasta. Something about the taco seasoning taste with the noodles was a little odd.

Terry's Texas Pinto Beans

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
Per some reviews, I added a couple slices of chopped bacon. I cooked these beans for a long time (at least 6 hours after they had soaked all night) and waited until the end to add the salsa verde. I tasted the beans prior to adding the salsa and thought they were DELICIOUS. After adding the salsa I didn't like them quite as much; personal taste I guess. But I will definately make these again without the salsa. Thanks for a tasty, easy, cheap recipe! You can't go wrong with a good ol' pot of beans.

Chicago-Style Hot Dog

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
Truly delicious! I couldn't find poppy-seed buns or "sport" peppers so had to use regular buns and pepperoncini, but the dogs were still awesome! All of the toppings and the celery salt just make it great!

Parsleyed Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
Very tasty and easy side dish! I used one cup of regular long grain rice instead of the two cups of instant and it came out great (I don't usually have instant rice on hand). It was very good served with my chicken piccata. Will definately keep this one in my files.

Amish Macaroni Salad

Reviewed: May 12, 2009
My family and I just didn't care for this macaroni salad. It's just too sweet and I reduced the sugar down to 1/4 cup! I'm sure it's just a personal taste preference so if you like a sweet macaroni salad you will probably like this. I followed the rest of the recipe exactly except for reducing the sugar and liked all of the other ingredients, it was just too sweet. I think the amount of dressing is perfect though - I put about half of the dressing on and let it sit in the fridge overnight then put the rest of the dressing on the next day and I thought it was a good consistency. All in all it was a decent macaroni salad that definately was eaten and did not go to waste but is not something I would make again. I'm still searching for the perfect mac salad!

Salsa Chicken Burrito Filling

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
This was a good, easy and quick recipe to make on a week night for a working mom like me. I made it exactly as written except I used 3 chicken breasts instead of 2 and added a little water. Delicious!

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 30, 2009
This soup is delicious! I made it as written with the exception of adding carrots and celery. My husband and I both loved it. I think next time I try using FF half and half as someone suggested to lighten it up a bit.

Heavenly Potatoes and Ham

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2009
This was really good, but it does need more ham and less potatoes. I didn't have the parm bread crumbs or any bread crumbs for that matter. I just put some sliced bread in my food processor to make some crumbs and mixed those with the butter. I would definately make this again with more ham.

Key Lime Cheesecake I

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2009
This was an excellent cheese cake. I used key lime juice and cut it back to 1/2 cup. I also added a couple tablespoons of sugar to the crust. After baking I turned off the oven and left the cheesecake in with the door cracked for an hour then cooled it completely on the counter before putting it in the fridge. I did not use a water bath and had no cracks! IT turned out beautifully!

Hearty Turkey Stew with Vegetables

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2008
This was a very good recipe for using leftover Thanksgiving turkey. I left out the bell pepper and the marjoram since I didn't have any. I added black pepper, garlic powder, poultry seasoning and sage.

Russian Tea Cakes I

Very good cookies! After mixing the butter and vanilla I just mixed the flour, sugar and nuts in with my hands. Also, I ground the nuts up in my food processor. Simple, yet delicious.

Delicious Ham and Potato Soup

This soup is awesome. A friend at work gave me the recipe and I have since passed the recipe on to others who all rave about it. I served it topped with a little sour cream and shredded cheddar cheese.

Delicious Egg Salad for Sandwiches

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
I thought this was great! The amount of mayo and mustard was right on in my opinion. I did add a little chopped sweet pickle (personal preference) and left out the paprika.
