About this Cook
I am a biologist with the University of Florida working with the post harvest life of cut flowers. How great of a job is that?
My favorite things to cook
Desserts. Anything with chocolate.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Aunt Dorie (who is 91) has a great recipe that we call "Dorie's Chocolate Dessert." My mother made it for every holiday meal. It is a pound of butter, 8 eggs, unsweetened chocolate, etc. It is not baked, and is the most rich pan of nonsense you've ever eaten
My cooking triumphs
Cheesecake! I love to make cheesecakes. I have discovered the secret to cheesecake - you don't really MAKE them; you BABYSIT them!
My cooking tragedies
Pecan pie! I cannot get a pecan pie to set. For years I thought it was my gas oven, but now I have electric and I still can't bake a pecan pie.

Chocolate Pound Cake III
I liked this cake & had fun making it. It is more dense than I expected for a pound cake. Greased pan with Crisco and floured with cocoa powder - no issues coming out of pan. After 60 min toothpick was not clean. Gave 10 more min & pick was clean, however there was a fudgy layer running thru near the top. Maybe it needed a bit more time?

Bacon Wrapped Smokies
3 little girls polished off almost the entire batch of these Super Bowl Sunday. We three adults each got a couple, however. I poured the brown sugar in a bowl and stirred the smokies around in it before rolling in the bacon. I didn't use much more brown sugar when I baked them. They are fabulous!
