Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
I thought this was great! So easy and yummy. I have to agree with others though- make sure you use a quality BBQ sauce, and one that fits your tastes (sweet, spicy, etc)!

Blonde Brownies I

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2009
I loved the texture of these... nice and ooey gooey, but I do think they were a bit on the rich side! (Although didn't keep me from eating way too many)! Like them, just if you're not into very sweet and rich blondies, this isn't the right recipe for you.

Homesteader Cornbread

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
Excellent. Did beat the mixture 5 min and let the cornmeal soak longer than it said, but other than that followed the recipe! Turned out great!

Sweet and Sour Beetroot

Reviewed: Jul. 25, 2008
This was my first experience with fresh beets, and I'm pleased with how they turned out. Here in amish country we must grow things big because the beets took closer to 30 min to cook. I didn't have malt vinegar, but read other reviews and decided to try with cider vinegar- when I reached for the bottle, realized there was only about 1Tbsp in it, and resorted to white, and cut back to 4Tbsp of the vinegar- I tasted the sauce/juice and it was still on the sour side, so just added an extra Tbsp of brwn. sugar. Rated 5 stars because I'm sure if I had the apple cider or malt vinegar, that the sour and sweet would balance! Good recipe despite my purple fingers!!!

Eggplant and Tomato Bake

Reviewed: Jul. 24, 2008
I rate this 3 stars for a few reasons. It tasted just fine, and for the calories and nutritional value, it can't really be beat, but would I make this more than a few times a year, no. I did increase the sauce like many other reviews stated, but otherwise, followed the recipe. Mine seemed to get pretty runny- maybe from extra sauce, but seemed to just be watery more so than extra saucy. Like I said- good, but just good.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2008
These turned out wonderful! I had a few sheets that got a bit over done though- so watch them closely!!! They go from not done to over done very quickly!

Low-Fat Blueberry Bran Muffins

Very Good especially for low fat and healthy!! Followed another review in beating egg white before adding, and muffins are light and have great texture! Perfect amount of sweetness. Will make again for sure!

Slow Cooker Lasagna

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2008
Okay... we're not picky people and are very forgiving of mediocre food but, this recipe was NOT good. Added extra tomato sauce like most of the other reviews suggest, and cooked it just about 5 hours. Noodles turned out like mush but more with the texture of glue. Should have just made the real thing- wouldn't have taken as long and would've tasted much better. Will not make again.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
This was my first attempt at a "real" cheesecake and it turned out absolutely beautiful! I had graham cracker crumbs on hand already, so used 1 1/2 C. of those and 3 Tbsp of butter for the crust. Other than that, followed the recipe to the "T", including leaving it in the oven with the door shut for 5-6 hrs, and it's beautifully smooth and uncracked. Great recipe!!

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 13, 2008
I can make great rolls and sweet breads, but haven't had any luck with actual "loaves" of bread. This recipe turned out spectacular- Didn't find it dense at all like some other reviews stated. Light, slightly sweet and super yummy! Husband and kids ate an entire loaf in a sitting!

A to Z Everything-but-the-Kitchen-Sink Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2008
Good cookies! I omitted all spices except cinnamon and used m&m's for the chocolate chips. Had to bake for 14 min and cookies did flatten- may try adding a bit of extra flour next time like some of the other reviews suggest. Very good flavor!

Very good soup. Omitted the additional salt- figured the ham added enough! Perfect for a blustery winter day- quick, easy and great!

Pumpkin Bread IV

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2007
Very good- one of the best pumpkin breads I've had, and nice since you don't have the leftover pumpkin to sit and go bad in the refrigerator!

Cranberry Upside-Down Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
Wonderful recipe- made for Thanksgiving Day breakfast instead of our usual cinnamon rolls and it's amazing! Sliced cranberries for more uniform appearance and taste, and baked at 325 for about 75 minutes (like another review suggested). Great recipe!

Pecan Pie V

This pie turned out great- I'm normally not a big pecan pie fan but my husband loves it, and I even liked this recipe. I doubled the filling to fill a 10" pie.

Very good recipe- Made it for a pie contest and like some of the other reviews, won first place. Worth every bit of the work.
