I am very much in touch with my kitchen spirit, cooking barefoot and lighting candles if I lack inspiration. Cooking is the one thing I can do in any mood, from all-encompassing rage (bread) to abject misery (soups). And to coin a phrase, I love to cook with wine. Sometimes I even put some in the food.
My favorite things to cook
Pasta bakes, chicken paprikas, soups, but mostly cakes and biscuits/cookies. I'm often to be found in the kitchen at midnight having suddenly decided that I have to have biscuits and I have to have them now. Though have just discovered the perfect brownie base which is rapidly taking over my life, really.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Our family chocolate cake is to die for, the stickiest, sickliest, marvellous cake. *sigh*. Also, my mother's mushroom jalousie is ever a favourite, along with the chicken chasseur. Christmas Eve's vegetable soup. Bonfire Night's stuffed jacket potatoes. Oh, my mouth is watering.
My cooking triumphs
One meal sums it up - butternut squash & chestnut soup, followed by roast garlic duck, followed by Christmas pudding ice cream. Beaut.
My cooking tragedies
Choux pastry. Every time a loser.
