Marshmallow Crispie Bars

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2006
So easy and so good (according to my husband and kids anyway - they're not really my scene so I didn't try them). I did as others suggested and added an extra 1/2 cup of rice krispies and they were perfect. Thanks for the tip on using a wet spoon to press it into the pan, it worked well.

Spinach-Stuffed Salmon Fillets

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2006
Very very good - but incredibly rich, I could only eat 1/2 my piece and I have a pretty good appetite!

Indian Turkey Burgers With Lime, Cucumbers, and Chutney

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2006
These had a quite nice flavour but were a too dry and the texture was a bit hard and crumbly - I'll try cooking them less next time. Served them on whole wheat bread with pineapple chutney.

Basil Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2006
Instead of grilling, I put everything including the marinade into a frying pan, added 1/2 cup white wine, and cooked on the stove top. Served it over quinoa - delicious.

Quinoa Tabbouleh

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2006
I halved the olive oil and added some cumin, but did everything else according to the recipe and loved it.

Black Bean Hummus

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
Quite good, although I found it a little bit salty, next time I won't add any salt. My 5 and 7 year old boys asked to have this with celery, carrot and capsicum sticks and now my 5 year old wants to take it to school for lunch tomorrow! Wonder when he'll realise it's healthy....

Homemade Black Bean Veggie Burgers

Reviewed: Sep. 10, 2006
These were great - I had to cook them for 10 minutes longer than the recipe stated, a lot of liquid came out of the onion when I chopped it in the food processor which made the mixture quite loose. They tasted great though.

Chile Verde II

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2006
As I started adding the stock, it was clearly going to be too much so I only added about 1 1/2 quarts instead instead of 4 1/2 - it was still a bit too much. Tasted great and very easy to make. I can't get tomatillos where I live so I just used tomatoes instead and it was fine.

Hot Pizza Dip

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2006
Four of us finished off the entire dish, with some crusty brown bread and corn chips - it was pretty good, the only thing I'd change is use less cream cheese, it was too much, and add more sauce. I used salsa instead of pizza sauce and it worked well.

Imitation Meatloaf

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2006
This was REALLY good, moist and tasty. I used fresh breadcrumbs instead of dried (4 slices wholemeal bread), green lentils instead of brown, left out the wheatgerm, added 2 cloves of crushed garlic, 1 shredded carrot and 2 sticks chopped celery. Also I topped it with BBQ sauce before cooking, and cooked for 1 1/2 hours. My husband loved it too.

Blonde Brownies I

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2006
Very good brownies. I left out the walnuts as my kids don't like them, and mixed the chocolate into the mix instead of sprinkling on top. Also put 100's and 1000's sprinkles on 1/2 before baking, the kids love them. Really easy to make too.

Chickpea Curry

Reviewed: May 29, 2006
I substituted ground cloves for whole, and ground cinnamon for crushed cinnamon sticks. When it was done, it didn't really look like dinner...so I cooked 6 bratwurst sausages, sliced them and added them, along with 2 heads of chopped broccoli, and then simmered, covered, for another 20 minutes - it was a delicious all-in-one meal. Oh, I also drained and rinsed the chickpeas first, and used water instead of the liquid from the can - it is full of salt and preservatives.

Italian Sausage, Peppers, and Onions

Reviewed: May 28, 2006
I needed a quick side dish and had very little in the house, so made this without the sausage. Used olive oil instead of butter and fresh basil instead of dried. It was quite good, I'll definitely make it again with the sausage next time.

Eastern Rice Salad

Reviewed: May 23, 2006
I just thought this was OK, but one of my guests particularly loved it. I used brown rice instead of white, left out the spinach and halved the amount of soy sauce and quartered the amount of oil as it just seemed too much. It just didn't do it for me...sorry.

Orange, Walnut, Gorgonzola and Mixed Greens Salad with Fresh Citrus Vinaigrette

Reviewed: May 23, 2006
Made this for a BBQ and it was really good. I took advice from lots of other reviewers - used pears instead of orange, added dried cranberries, used Danish blue cheese as couldn't find gorgonzola and used lots more than the recipe suggested, used pecans instead of walnuts, added garlic to the dressing and halved the dressing quantity, leaving the sugar out altogether.

Chickpeas in Tomato Sauce With Feta and Wine

Reviewed: May 17, 2006
Wow, this is delicious! I followed the recipe except for not draining the tomatoes, then poured the whole lot over some chicken breasts and baked them for about 1/2 hour - really really good.

Indian Dahl with Spinach

Reviewed: May 16, 2006
I followed the advice of other reviewers and doubled all the spices, used 1 tbsp olive oil instead of butter, reduced the water to 3 cups, and left out the coconut milk. I also used frozen chopped spinach instead of fresh. As I totally forgot to rinse and soak the lentils, I actually needed to add more water and cook for a lot longer. It turned out really well after all the alterations and we had it for dinner with brown rice.

Tofu with Pork and Cashews

Reviewed: May 15, 2006
I only used 1 tbsp of soy sauce as I thought it would be too salty, and added a bunch of chopped, lightly steamed green beans in with the tofu. We really enjoyed it and it was very quick to prepare after work.

Fresh Tomato Salsa

Reviewed: May 14, 2006
Like others, I halved the salt and seeded the tomatoes, and I also added 1 tsp extra lime juice. I used a few heaped tablespoons of chopped pickled green chillies as this was all I had. The salsa pretty good but it just seemed to be missing something...maybe I'll add some dried cumin next time.
