Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style

Reviewed: Mar. 25, 2007
Excellent excellent chicken! Will make this again and again. So easy, so moist, so tasty. Made to recipe except halved salt and didn't have any onion salt. Also guests were late so cooked for almost 6 hours instead of 5 - didn't seem to matter.

Banana Cranberry Bread

Just fantastic - I left out the nutmeg and walnuts, and used butter instead of shortening. Really moist and delicious.

Easy Caramelized Onion Pork Chops

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2007
I should have read the reviews before I made this - too much water. But tasted great and really tender meat. I added an extra onion, used only 1/2 tsp salt, and added red wine vinegar to the water. Really good easy meal.

Mou Shu Pork Wraps

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2007
I don't know what Mou Shu pork is supposed to taste like, so can't say if it's authentic or not - but I enjoyed this, it was tasty but there was too much sauce - I'll halve it next time. I didn't bother with tortilla wraps, just served it as a stir fry and it was great. Used less bean sprouts than the recipe specified, will add more next time.

Lentil Quiche

Reviewed: Feb. 26, 2007
Delicious - I added garlic and used an extra teaspoon of Italian seasoning. Cooked the onion and garlic in with the lentils and then mixed everything else in when they were done. Also used a few different types of cheeses that I had in the fridge.

Southwest Chicken

Reviewed: Feb. 4, 2007
I used a 14oz can of diced tomatoes and added a few spoonfuls of sliced pickled green chillies. Also used more corn and 1tsp cumin, and added 1 cup quinoa. Simmered with lid on - great taste but chicked was a bit overcooked. Next time will add more cumin and also cayenne, and add the chicken later so it doesn't get so dry.

Hot and Sour Chinese Eggplant

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2007
This was pretty good but the eggplant was a bit hard, even after salting and leaving for almost an hour. I added onion, garlic and green beans, and halved the sugar. Great flavour.

All American Roast Beef

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2007
Thank goodness for this recipe - I accidently threw out the instructions for the beef roast that I bought for a dinner party for nine, but these instructions worked well! Perfect medium rare - I left the beef in a little longer than the recipe stated, as I had 3 pieces of meat in one pan (each about 2 pounds) so figured it would need longer. Thanks!

Triple the Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2007
Couldn't stop eating these! Very very good. Take note of the recipe guideline about spacing the cookies apart enough - I didn't do this with the first batch and they spread and stuck together.

Almond Chicken Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2007
Fantastic - loved it. My husband licked the bowl (I'm not joking!). Followed the recipe almost exactly, only used a bit less mustard per other reviewers' advice.

English Royalty Chocolate Chip Scones

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
Good recipe but as others have said, the quantities are a bit off. I used 8 tbsp butter and 6 tbsp milk (didn't think the kids would like it with orange juice, they can be fussy). Kids absolutely loved them.

Spicy Black Bean Cakes

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2007
Very good, we had these in wraps with cream cheese and salsa. Would have given 5 stars but they needed just a bit more flavour and I already added some cayenne.

Lentils And Spinach

Reviewed: Dec. 18, 2006
I enjoyed this but would add more spice next time - I followed the recipe exactly and think it needs more cumin or some cayenne pepper...not sure what. Served it topped with a baked salmon fillet, great meal.

Gingerbread Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2006
These tasted OK but the texture was not what I expected - don't think I'll use this recipe again. I've had much better gingerbread cookies.

Rosemary Braised Lamb Shanks

Reviewed: Nov. 19, 2006
This was very good, but I only gave it four stars as the other reviewers are right, there's way too much sauce. I cut back by 1/2 on the broth and wine, and used 8 large lamb shanks, and there was still too much. I added mushrooms and lots more carrots to the sauce mix and simmered it on the stove top until it had reduced, and added a roux to thicken it. I baked the lamb and sauce mix in a moderate oven for 4 hours, covered with foil, and the lamb was incredibly tender and delicious. Served it with mashed potatoes.

Mom's Chocolate Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2006
Very quick and easy. Made a few changes - used a round 8 inch cake tin and had to bake for 1hr 10min, and used 1/2 cup boiling water and 1/2 cup Tia Maria in place of coffee. It rose well, was moist and tasted great. Next time I'll split it and fill it with raspberries and cream but this time I didn't ice it, it great as it was.

Pasta e Fagioli I

Reviewed: Oct. 26, 2006
This tasted great but looked awful! I changed around some of the quantities (more garlic, more chicken broth and didn't use the bean liquid, doubled the cannellini beans)and added carrot and celery. Next time I'd use less pasta - I know the pasta is the point of the soup but it was too much for my taste.

Delicious Black Bean Burritos

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2006
My husband absolutely loved these so I had to give 5 stars - I quite liked them but would only have given a 4. I followed the recipe except omitted the salt, used a whole red pepper, and added dash of cumin and cayenne. There was enough filling for 4 burritos. A bit too much cream cheese for me - I'll cut down next time. But great recipe.

Vietnamese Rice-Noodle Salad

Reviewed: Oct. 7, 2006
I thought this was quite good but could have used a bit more dressing. I used 2 red chili padis instead of jalapeno (jalapenos aren't Vietnamese!) and put the cabbage in with the noodles to cook. Also reduced the fish sauce to 2 tbsp and sugar to 1 tbsp. It was missing something...not sure what...but still pretty good.
