Why is the vegetarian better at cooking meat then I am?

So, some friends came over tonight and I made a pot roast and some mashed potatoes, from this site of course, in two crock pots. They were all happy and raved about how awesome the food was. Too bad I didn't taste it! I am a vegetarian, so I will never know if they are just being polite. My husband on the other hand has had the pot roast many times and says that it is fabulous, and he is very honest. I have been told, on the rare occasion, by him, that my food is not spicy enough, not salty enough etc. After that we all curled up on the sectional couch and watched Twilight on the big screen! Gotta love Edward!

What I changed:
For the potatoes, I skipped the butter, because of the gravy made with the pot roast, like others mentioned.
For the pot roast, I seasoned/rubbed and pan fryed in olive oil the meat for extra flavor. Seasonings used: Garlic salt, fresh cracked pepper, onion powder.
I normally also put on regular salt, but one of my guests was watching their salt intake.
