Slow-Cooker Chicken Tortilla Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2008
This is a great recipe and very forgiving. I added sauteed celery, bell pepper, onion and 2 minced habanero's. I didnt have enchilada sauce but a can of tomato sauce, 1 cup water, 2 tbsp oil and 1/4 cup chili powder made a perfect substitute. My husband LOVED this soup. I served it with grated jack cheese sprinkled on top. The only thing I would do differently is bake my tortilla strips with less oil next time; they came out a little greasy and tough.

Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2008
I love forgiving recipes like this. I never made it before and tweaked it a little (using ingredients i had on hand) and it came out great! I used lowfat milk, added some white pepper, red pepper, black pepper romano and asagio cheese and some salt - this was sooooo good!

Bread Pudding II

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
This is a great recipe! Very forgiving too. I used a 6 day old loaf of french bread and eyeballed the amount of bread/egg mixture to use since I was using an odd shaped small caserole dish and smaller amount of bread than the recipe called for. I used about half the egg mixture. I also added a teaspoon of salt. I set my timer for 45 mins and checked the internal temp (which was 177 - perfect for custards) and pulled it out of the oven. Tasted fabulous! I will definitely make this again. Thanks for sharing this recipe!

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: May 25, 2007
These were great scones, the texture was perfect. However, the taste was a bit blad - definitely needs alot more sugar and cinnamon. I was hoping this recipe would make a scone like i would get in a coffee shop but it wasnt nearly sweet enough. I would add an extra 3/4 cup sugar and some cinnamon. I also added cut up canned peaches to my scones - very tasty!

Best Carrot Cake Ever

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2007
I followed directions fairly well with the exception of draining off every last little bit of liquid. I thought the batter looked kind of thin when i put it in the oven, but thought it would be okay - It would be nice if the recipe indicated how thick the batter should be so readers could compensate with extra flour if needed. Unfortunately, the cake didnt rise and formed a dense carrot brick.

Creamy Au Gratin Potatoes

These were actually really bland. My guests picked at them and there was a lot left over.

Vanilla and Chocolate Delight

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2006
This is an awesome recipe! Great for potlucks and allways gets rave reviews. I made a few modifications that i think make this even better: For the crust - instead of using pecans use sliced almonds - gives the crust a great texture and flavor! Also, make the vanilla pudding and chocolate pudding seperately and layer. Finally, instead of using chopped chocolate on top use chocolate chip mini morsels.

Almond Puff

Reviewed: Dec. 3, 2005
This was ok but not great. I took it to a cookie exchange and it was the last thing to go. The almond puff filling portion had kind of a wierd texture/consistency. I wont make it again but i would tell anyone considering making it to add a little sugar to the filling part.. i think this might help.

Santa's Whiskers I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2005
This is a great recipe! I have been making these for a long time and instead of rolling the logs in coconut i just put the coconut in the dough. It's much less easier to work with and tastes better in my opinion (coconut stays nice and moist). My family loves these and my dad requests them every christmas.

Best Ever Pie Crust

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2005
This pie crust came out great! I did modify the recipe a little though: flour and salt the same, 1/2 cup crisco, 1/2 cup butter (very cold), 1/4 cup ice water + 1 tablespoon cider vinegar + 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1/4 cup sugar. I used a food processor and handled the dough as little as possible. It came out awesome - tender, flaky and buttery! I made an apple pie so i also did an egg wash (egg yolk brushed on upper crust) and sprinkled w sugar - it came out beautiful!
