Chef John's Chocolate Lava Cake

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2013
The flavor was great but mine ended up being cooked all the way through. I guess I kept it in the oven for too long? I had never used a water bath before and it was very difficult for me. It worked for my chocolate fix but I think I'll be looking for a different lava cake recipe.

Italian Bread Bowls

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2013
A little flat which might have been my fault. In the end they still worked great for my super chunky beef stew. The flavor was alright and sort of bland but i didn't experiment with adding extra spices since it was my first time. They were a lot of work but I think I will make them again because they really brought some excitement to our normal dinner routine!

Buttery Soft Pretzels

Reviewed: Jul. 23, 2013
Wonderful! I have never made pretzels before and these were perfect. I followed some advice from other reviews and baked them at 430 instead and brushed them with butter before sprinkling the salt and baking. I also put a glass of hot water in the oven and covered the bowl with a damp towel during the rising time. Absolutely delicious I will definitely be making more I just hope they will be as great the second day as they are fresh!

Basic Crepes

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2013
WOW! I've never made crepes before and was always under the impression that they were difficult to make. Not this recipe! I did the wet ingredients first with the whisk in the mixer but realized my half batch wasn't big enough for my mixer so I whisked in the dry ingredients myself. I added some sugar and vanilla for sweet breakfast crepes. The batter was smooth and thin and they came out beautiful! They only needed less than a minute on the pan before they were ready for a flip. A little powdered sugar, whipped cream, and boysenberry jam and they were amazing! I can't wait to make more!

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2013
Wow delicious! I had never made a cheesecake before so for my first time this one came out great! I did not use a water bath so I had one small crack and my cream cheese was apparently still too cold so I had some lumpy spots. I also was not sure what one graham cracker was. I used 15 whole large rectangular crackers and I think that was too much so I added extra butter. It worked out fine since my family likes a thick graham cracker crust. I will definitely make it again!
