I am here!I'm still cooking, though lately the mood has been on and off, so many dinners have consisted of frozen pizza, grilled cheese, or scrambled eggs.  In between my cooking lulls, I've managed to put together a few delicious, noteworthy (or at least photo-worthy) meals. Here in Seattle,… MORE

So it's been a while....crazy stuff happening....holidays....now I can finally get back to normal! I'm not a big holiday person and usually spend the month of December gritting my teeth till it's over.  I love Thanksgiving because it's about food, friends, and family, but Christmas makes me… MORE

So there's a lot going on in my life right now that I'm sure I'll write about someday...meanwhile, I'm still cooking!  That's one thing that won't change; I will never get tired of making and eating yummy food. Here's my latest endeavor.  Yesterday I went down to a local butcher shop and got a… MORE

Maybe it's the winter weather, maybe it's the approaching holiday season, but my resolve to remain a vegetarian is wearing off. Why, when I've read all the books and I know the science, how the animals are treated, why dairy isn't good for you, WHY do I still want to eat it? I'm an intelligent… MORE

What's happening in the world of Starr's New Eating Adventure? So what is vegan?Vegan means that you don't consume ANY foods that come from animals, including those containing any animal-derived ingredients.  True vegans also don't wear leather or wool.  Let's just establish that I am NOT… MORE

....is to not realize you're doing it! Huh?I've been drinking iced soy mochas for years and years, usually just 2 shots. Well, sometime earlier this year that turned into 3 shots and a bigger sized drink. On days when I was crazy tired, they'd see the look on my face and offer me that last,… MORE

Since tofu is the Allrecipes Ingredient of the Week...As a follow-up to my rant about fake meat, let's discuss the wonders of pure tofu.I'd much prefer to eat food that is less-processed, containing no mystery ingredients.  Just because something is "natural" or "vegetarian" doesn't mean it's… MORE

It's possible that I may be obsessed with cooking and photographing my food, so it's time to give my Facebook friends a little break to discuss tonight's pizza plans. One of my truly favorite foods is pizza, I'll admit it, and that's not going away just because I don't eat pepperoni or cheese… MORE

Even non-vegetarians have heard of fake meat.  Some people I know on certain diets even eat it sometimes because they've figured out that it's lower in fat, free of cholesterol, and they can eat more of it because it's less "points".  I must admit, the selections have grown since my last… MORE

One of my favorite things to do is to try and come up with something to cook using the ingredients I already have on hand. Keep in mind, we are well-stocked right now, so it wasn't a huge problem. But have you ever looked up recipes and it seems like with every one you find, you're missing… MORE

About Me
I'm a picky eater who likes to sometimes try new things, if that makes sense. Life isn't only about cooking, however, as I enjoy spending time with my Chihuahua, reading, movies, decorating my condo, lots of t.v. shows, etc.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite go-to meal is home fried potatoes and tofu with tons of veggies and fresh herbs. I also love fresh juice, especially kale, parsley, and green apples.
My favorite family cooking traditions
my mom cooked pretty much traditional American Midwest food....burgers, spaghetti & meatballs, things like that. but everything she made was delicious! family gatherings and holidays were always filled with tons of homemade food - no boxed mashed potatoes in my house!
My cooking triumphs
see blog entry "The Chicken Incident" also, any time I can make something without measuring - when it's totally by instinct, I consider that a success.
My cooking tragedies
I don't know.....anything overcooked or too dry....basically when I've had any cooking tragedy in the past, it was because I wasn't really into cooking at that moment! you've really got to cook with love or it won't turn out!
