Grandma's Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
I made this recipe and the "traditional" green bean casserole found on the fried onion canister for Thanksgiving. I had everyone who eats green bean casserole try both. Unanimously, everyone liked the traditional. Maybe we are all creatures of habit? I thought it was okay, but I won't be making it again.

Cranberry Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Wow! There are a lot of nuts in these. Even though I am a fan of nuts, I thought they overpowered the muffins. I thought these were just okay. A few of the older ladies liked these when I served them at Thanksgiving, but I had a lot left. Nobody went for the cranberry "spread" either. These muffins were a little dry and stuck to the muffin pan. If I were to make them again, I would definitely use liners.

Maple Sausage Balls

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
We have made these three ways. The first way, my mom mixed the raw sausage with the other ingredients before baking. These came out really greasy. When I made them next, I completely cooked the sausage before mixing. These were way too dry. The third time, I cooked the sausage a LITTLE to remove some of the grease before I mixed in the other ingredients. This way turned out the best, but were still a little dry. So, I guess I would leave some of the fat in the sausage. I kept them warm in a crockpot and served them with chili sauce at the last brunch I had. Most everyone liked them.

Camp Cornbread

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Made this last night to go with a Mexican chicken recipe that I have. It had the perfect amount of sweetness to compliment the salsa on the chicken. I halved the sugar and I made it in a smaller pan. It took 15 minutes longer go cook as it was a little soupy in the center at 30 minutes.

Amish Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
I like this casserole so much that I've added it to my favorite recipes cookbook that I will pass down to my daughter sometime. I usually substitute ground turkey, but I've made it several times with ground beef as well. I add onion and a can of diced tomatoes with green chilies when I add the tomato soup. I like the combination of sweet with the kick from the green chilies.

Boardwalk Quality Maple Walnut Fudge

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Big hit at our house! We like to call it "Fundy" because its consistency is somewhere between fudge and a chewy candy. We made it in the little foil candy wrappers to add to our goody trays at Christmas. It made about 60! We have also made it several times in a 9 x 9.

Lemon Zucchini Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
These had a good flavor. I really loved the sauce that you drizzle on them. However, mine didn't rise well. Maybe because of the amount of zucchini I added that threw off the wet/dry ratio? They ended up like wet sponges. Not to waste, I had to freeze some because I was the only one who would them.

Antipasto Pasta Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
This is my "go to" pasta salad. I made it last for my son's birthday BBQ. It made a lot, yet there was hardly any left...a truly good sign it was a hit! (And my Mother-In-Law stole the leftovers.) When I make it, I let it marinate overnight so that the flavors can meld.

Peanut Noodles

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
I think I liked this more than the rest of the family. It came out pretty dry. If I made it again, I would double the sauce.

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
I was never a big fan of pot roast, but made it occasionally to please my hubby. This recipe changed my mind! I don't keep vermouth in the house, so I just whip up some beef bouillon. I add a cup of it so we have extra gravy for our potatoes. I sear the roast in a Dutch oven, mix the wet ingredients together, cover, then throw it in the oven. I add the baby carrots, potatoes and onions in after a hour or so. The only complaint that I have is that the aroma fills the house and makes me salivate all afternoon!

Quick and Easy Alfredo Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Really easy/real good. Second time I made it, I used an asiago/Romano/Parmesan blend. It sharpened it up a little bit. Good as is though. So much better than jar sauce! Hubby's favorite with shrimp, spinach, grape tomatoes over spinach fettichini.

Slow Cooker Mashed Potatoes

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
This recipe saved me on Thanksgiving! We hosted a brunch with one family and then supper with my husband's side. I definitely needed a time saver, and this was it! My husband wasn't paying attention when he peeled the potatoes and did the whole 10 pound bag. We had a very large crockpot of potatoes for the 15 of us. After the three other families took what they wanted of the leftovers, I was left with only a quart sized storage bag. Everyone wanted the recipe. The potatoes were so good that many of us skipped the gravy!

Maple Praline Bacon

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Tried to make this twice. Both times, I couldn't get the candy to stick. My son was so disappointed! :'( Not to waste anything, We ended up eating the bacon separately from the "candy" once it had hardened.

Christmas Cornflake Wreath Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Love this recipe! Definitely use the almond extract; that's what differentiates this from the cereal treats. I used a red frosting pouch to dot red holly berries on the cereal mound to really save time. These are such a breeze to make! I've made these for Valentine's Day as well. I added red (pink) food coloring and easily shaped the warm " mound" into a heart.

Mama's Italian Wedding Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
This was just okay. Nobody in my family was really thrilled with it. I think it was the meatballs. They changed consistency a little after simmering in the soup for an hour. Maybe if we ate it right away I could rate it higher.

Just Like Wendy's® Chili

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2014
Didn't change a thing (except used ground turkey because that's what we had). I've made a lot of different chilis in my lifetime. This is our "go to" recipe for chili now!
