Blueberry Buttermilk Coffeecake

Reviewed: May 19, 2014
I made this and used plain unsweetened yogurt in place of buttermilk since I had some that needed using and instead of topping in recipe I just sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. That saved a lot of calories and still tasted really good. I made the full recipe and baked in 8 x 8 and 9 x 9 inch pans. I froze one for later. Very good recipe that I will keep in my file.

Decadent Chocolate Orange Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2014
I followed another reviewer's idea and whipped the ganache to frost the outside of the cake. I think the cake could have used more orange flavor and next time I think I will add more marmalade to the cream cheese. Everyone really liked the cake and it looked professional. Thanks very much for the recipe.

Irish Brown Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2013
I too enjoyed this bread. I used regular oats, and it worked fine. What was surprising to me is how long the bread stayed fresh with so little fat in it. Very healthy recipe.

Crackle Top Molasses Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2013
I made these and made them a little smaller than recipe said. I doubled the spices except for the cloves. Very attractive and very crunchy. I think next time I will add finely chopped candied ginger. That would add to the chewiness.

Bread and Butter Pickles II

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2013
I just made this today so haven't tried them yet. I used one vidalia onion and one regular onion (I made half a recipe) and a red bell pepper. I rinsed the vegetables after the salting period. I was afraid I wouldn't have enough liquid but it worked out fine. I got 7 pint jars.

Chef John's Gazpacho

Reviewed: Jul. 14, 2013
I followed the recipe except used juice of one lemon instead of lime because that's what I had. I also used regular cucumbers (peeled) and a Vidalia onion in place of the green onions. Absolutely delicious soup and just perfect for dinner on a hot summer night. Thank you for providing such a winner.

Cherry Pound Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2013
I made this cake for Christmas then didn't serve it so I froze it and then brought it out about 2 weeks later. It stayed moist for well over a week kept well wrapped at room temperature. I think it could have used a little more almond extract. I will be making it again soon to please my husband who was crazy about it.

Banoffee Pavlova

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2010
I made this for today's dessert. I used bananas and pears which was a nice contrast in tastes. My sister said she wants this for her birthday but with strawberries and chocolate sauce. I made my own caramel sauce (1 stick butter, 1 c. sugar and 1 1/4 cups evaporated milk) and it was really really good. Very light after a meal of black eyed peas, turnip greens and cornbead. Judy

Pineapple Pie IV

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2008
I made this for my mother's birthday dessert. Only thing I did differently was add a pinch of salt, and I brushed the surface of the top crust with a little of the liquid from the pie so it would brown nicely. Pie is as good warm as cold. Very light and good.
